Dear All,

I am working with a consultant firm and have noticed that there is not much requirements coming in. It is very frustrating as to come to work everyday, 6days a week and not do anything. It has been around 5months nows, completley new to this field and I feel that it has been a complete waste as I am not learning anything over here. I am planning to pursue my diploma in HR and move on to Corporate HR but without sufficient experience, I feel that I may not get the opportunity.

I am really worried about it. Is it the same with all consultant firms or is it only with where I am?

Hi Carron,

A warm welcome to hrlink.

In these recession times, almost all corporate companies have slashed their budgets which includes HR budgets too for the year. Automatically when HR budget gets slashed, majority of the requirements have to be filled in by the recruitment personnel of the company itself. Hence the volume of requirements being passed on to the recruitment consultancies has come down drastically. This is uniform across the country. Some companies have in fact de-empanelled many consultancies and put stringent criteria for empanelment.

Sad, but true. Many consultancies are feeling the brunt of this trend. As for your aspiration to get into Corporate HR soon, I wish you luck for it. May it happen sooner than you expect.

Good luck.

Hello Carron,

As Rightly said by Harish Sir, due to the sloedown in the economies acorss the world, many companies have literally siezed the recruitment!

So, the results what we are facing are obivious!

Fortunatelly, all the economies have now started to recover my many ways or measures. Soon the results are going to be very much positive! be sure of that!!

Carron, the requirement of qualified personnel was there even before the slowdown, so in this period of slack the data pool is gonna be on rising trend!

Thiugh m not an economist, nor I have much knowledge about Economics still we can hope for the improved situation (Mostly a boom) upto or after September 2009!

Your query is already been replied by Harish sir, HEAT IS EVERYWHERE WE ARE BOUND TO FEEL IT!!!

Let me quote a line:

THERE IS NO NIGHT, WHICH IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE DAWN....!

All the Best!!

Hi Carron,

I understand the concern. Here you are concentrating only on the -ve part fo the Recession & its effects. Infact you can turn into a Golden Opportunity. U read articles about what recruitment is all about. Get in touch with HR's of different companies, build the network. Keep interacting with them every now & then which definitely helps u some time or the other.

I agree that the companies have freezed the requirements, but thats not the case in terms of Contract staffing. Approach clients reagrding empanelment [ intially the answer wld be no ] then start speaking to them abt contract Staffing. Add more number of Clients to ur org. I promise u that ur work wld never be the same again & infact if u start working thoroughly the 6 days time wt ur talking abt wld fall short of :)

Try to look for alternative sources & search on the net. U'll find N number of things.

U'll nt find opportunity to learn better than now. Trust me.

Good Luck & never get demotivated.

Regards,
Sreeram G

Hai Caroon,

Welcome to HRLink....

I can understand your situation... Even I also faced some similar problems few months back..

Dont give up dear... You will get some options, keep trying..

I also noticed many consultancies got closed due to recession.. Reputed companies are no more hiring..

But still there are some companies which are hiring beacause candidates are also equally frustrated and ready to work at lower packages.. (so they can attract better talent at lower cost)..

Other than that SSI's are also hiring to fulfil their basic requirement in these conditions (as they are not much affected due to recession).. So just keep an eye in the labour market..

Even going for further studies is also a good idea because market will get stabalised after some time and you can make entry in corporates (it will b a value addition after doing some diploma course)..

All the best dear... I just want to say dont give up... Keep trying...

With regards,
Vinay

Hi Carron,

Well you have been already pooled in with valuable information and suggestions by the Members here .. So I am sure you would have started working on it .!

Two bits from me, What I realized is that in the current scenario come up with some new ideas or strategies to attract the corporate which may be in the way of :-

 reduce your % of charge towards closures or the tariff followed
 Extend the payment credit period
 OR you can also propose for the split payment, say, 50% after 45 days from date of joining and rest after 90 days.

This may be a chokepoint for you but I guess its far better than running without any business in hand.

All the best to you !

Hi Carron, i can understnad the situation that you are going thru..... i too believe that 'Learning', is not something you get from consultanies which are inthe job finding domain. It's routine & veri tiring job & definately it does crush ones egos. What you are planning is good.... corporates give the opportunity to operate in more than just the recruitment area .... that is other hr functions as well.
So, if i had to suggest.,...i wud say you go for other areas in diploma like payroll, T&D, etc, thats a part from recruitment.
A very best of luck for you future commiments.

Take care & bye for now

My Friend, I am giving you some motivation, don't think you are alone ... many of us are in the brunt of this recession and doubtful about the work we r doing, you don't deserve to give up after completing your education for soo many years,
so this is for you.......

1) "If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary" by Jim Rohn
2) "Many of life's failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up." by Thomas Edison
3) " Heroes are made in the hour of defeat. Success is, therfore, well described as a series of glorious defeats." by Mahatma Gandhi

Don't give up................ keep fighting !!!
