The working hours in my organization are little stretched - Monday to Saturday 0930 hours to 1930 hours. By Saturday nearly everyone is tired and vexed as there is not much work to do but they still have to sit in the office.
Since all efforts to reduce the working hours and/ or number of days have proved unsuccessful, we want to carry out Employee Engagement Activities on Saturday so as to boost there level of satisfaction.
I'm thus seeking ideas on employee engagement and team building activities of one hour duration each that can be carried out within the office premises with minimum expenditure (as we are testing the waters). The purpose of these activities shall be to enhance their interpersonal skills.
I would be highly obliged and appreciate your valuable suggestions for the same.

If your management approves then dont only keep it on Saturdays. Start with employee birthday celebration. Company can provide a card on which each employee write their wishes, a bouquet and a small snacks party this will take only 30 mins not more than that, incase your company approves the budget for snack party.
On Saturday you can have salad party where every employee brings the ingredients for the salad they want to make and one person decides who salad taste and looks good.
You can also have a games break where employee bring their own game and can play on Saturdays at some fixed time.
You can also plan for a lunch or dinner or movie ones in every quarter.

If your company permits you can have a get to gather of all associates by end of the day and celebrate birthday party or else just appreciate them at all employees.
We can conduct more and more if funded by company, even you can go for free of cost appreciation to associates feel happy.
Lot of posts have been posted on this Employee Engagement topic. For example go through this post which is quite informative and enlightening.

As suggested by Pradeep, please go through the link, which have various views.. adding on to it, you can set a theme & ask people of that particular bay/floor/cabin to decorate their place according to that theme, the best fitting bay / floor can be gifted with something. By doing this, you will find for yourself the motivation & team work. You can set a weekly / monthly newsletter, ask for volunteers for editing works. You can invite people to write short stories, jokes, poems & share their interesting experiences. Publish it on the notice boards / promote it online (internal). Best articles can be awarded, you will find a lot of differences & bring in togetherness. Even business notes, achievements, best performances, innovative ideas of process improvements & other things that needs to be highlighted can be a part of this newsletter, this will give high energy/motivation for the employees to see their names getting published through some medium.
@ birthday celebrations instead of presenting greeting cards, you can purchase a white or any light colour T-shirts, ask all the staffs / team members to sign in the t-shirt & gift it to the b'day baby after cake cutting & b'day bums celebrations are over ;). Also ask him to wear it & take group photos. This idea will definitely be touching & it will be a gift & celebration which will be at his/her mind forever..
Hope the above ideas are of some use to you. Share your experience/ideas, so that we can also learn new things.

As the topic is hot and burning dont u think that it is a major issue in todays senerio coz as the engagement activity is directly proportional to the mental peace of the executor/activitist. let me be brief on this my point is the employee is engaged in a monotonous life by following certaing policies of the organization and creating reports in between the creativity is dieing coz its more of the work pressure in the head which reduces the creative thought process of the staff or the hr.hence results in poor job performance. and leads to frustrations and dis engagement in activity.
i call u friends to put ur viwes and solutions to this problem which i believe is the major challenge for any hr/employee.
Thanks & Regards
