This is a true story.
An interviewer was talking to a female production-line worker in a biscuit factory. The dialog went like this:
Interviewer: How long have you worked here?
Production Lady: Since I left school (probably about 15 years).
Interviewer: What do you do?
Production Lady: I take packets of biscuits off the conveyor belt and put them into cardboard boxes.
Interviewer: Have you always done the same job?
Production Lady: Yes.
Interviewer: Do you enjoy it?
Production Lady: Oooh Yes, it's great, everyone is so nice and friendly, and we have a good laugh.
Interviewer (with a hint of disbelief): Really? Don't you find it a bit boring?
Production Lady: Oh no, sometimes they change the biscuits……
Moral of the story is -
•Do not impose your own needs and ambitions on to other people who may not share them.
•Don't assume that things that motivate you will motivate someone else.
•Recognize that sources of happiness may vary widely between people.
Action Plan -
Try to understand different human beings. Ever human beings are different, their needs are different. Don’t impose your thoughts and behavior on others. In day today life we try to influence others with our thoughts even though other person is not ready to accept. This is the main issue for any conflict at workplace or even in our personal life. So try to avoid this type of behavior. Respect others feelings.
For some happiness is hard to achieve and is strictly related to reaching the most bold dreams, feeling succesfull. For others happiness means stability, less chalenges, safety, peace.
Some seek happiness their entire life, missing simple moments that value a lot. Others feel happy for every small happening in their life, every small gesture.
There are people who know how to be happy, there are others who are never satisfied and pleased.
You can never judge or measure someone else's happiness by your own standards or definition. You should try to know the other one, understand and accept what makes him happy, what motivates him. It is equally essential not to compare yourself with others, to take time to "read" the ones next to you in your personal life and at work. That is how you will know how to help maintaining them pleased, happy and they will always appreciate your empathy and understanding.
