I noticed in many job postings that females are prefered by employers for HR jobs.

Why there is a perception among people that females are better HR professionals.

Please dont take this question in wrong sense... I am not making any kind of statement about gender discrimination....

I just asking your view on this...

I myself personaly feel that females use to react positively even in negative conditions that may be the reason that they are good as HR.
e.g.- If some female HR want to say no to some employee they use say it so politely that he/she also agree with her.

Hi Vinay!

I don't accept that many employers are giving preference to female candidates for HR function.I hardly see any job posting mentioning that women are being given preference.
It entirely depends on the kind of organization and function being handled and there is no preference whatsoever and any HR position will be filled purely based on experience, traits and job knowledge etc and most importantly suitability to a particular kind of organization and nature of job.
Moreover most of the organizations are now equal opportunity employers giving equal preference to all irrespective of gender. If any preference other than nature of job is being given it is mainly because women are bound to stay in an organization for more time than men and that also has become rare now a days as women are equally switching jobs whenever there are brighter opportunities.
All the organizations believe in talent and whoever delivers the results expected out of them with positive attitude will be given preference irrespective of any gender. There is no perception whatsover that women are better HR professionals or men are better HR professionals and whoever possess talent and knowledge will be the ultimate winner.

Cheers!
Pradeep

Some functions are there in HR, which can be taken care in a better way by a woman in comparision of Man like Coordination, PR, Commincation (Internal/External), Some tasks on Recruitment like Telephonic Interview, Administration of Performance Appraisal like Data Gathering etc. where work sometimes becomes tedious as men get irritated by slow progress and repeated task in comparision of woman. In Manufacturing Industries like Garment/Textile there are fany processes mainly handled by woman. So for such functions I would like to recruit woman.

hi,
in most of the fresher jobs females are preferred for HR & sometimes male candidates also. Infact, in my MBA course all the HR students were girls except 1 boy.............& he was often teased by other boys as he had opted for hr .........now what to say about that :-).

I believe that HR is challenging for both genders.

Hi Vinay

As you mentioned that employers preferred females for HR position , is not very correct.HR profile is not gender oriented it depends upon job role which has to assign.Females are good to handle recruitment process, employee relations and males are good in handling HR operation work like PF,ESI,labour relations in large manufacturing unit where their is direct interaction of HR with unions, labour so that is totally depend upon company’s environment, kind of company it is and job criteria.

I also know of a jute mill which prefers women over men as welfare officer since their experience showed that labor unions were much softer in their dealing with a lady.

“HR is generally perceived to be a profession based around people and people skills. Men – and this is too deep a topic to be specific about – tend to be attracted to areas that are more systematic, more structured and more competitive.” In male-dominated professions, such as sales, law or engineering, you can see the number of sales made, or court cases won, or bridges built, you can usually see exactly what has been achieved. But in HR, it has not always been easy to measure your achievement.

I don’t believe that women prefer HR because it is a soft option. In the difficult areas of HR that managers often shy away from – such as discipline or hard-edged negotiations – it is often the women who are prepared to cut to the quick and be decisive.

“HR is a job where the amount of power you have lies in your ability to influence other people, whereas in many other jobs, you have power through position. I think the women who come into HR and do well are particularly good at influencing other people.”

Women also seem to be less precious about positions. I don’t mean that they don’t care about status. I mean that they seem to be more open minded when it comes to moving towards or away from a particular point of argument, whereas men often feel it is a sign of weakness.

The key HR skills in many areas are the ability to empathise, relate and influence, and use emotional intelligence. I am not suggesting that men don’t have emotional intelligence, but in HR the women who do well have bags and bags of it…

Hello Vinay,

I completely agree with Priya.

And the fact is HR is an individual’s knowledge, skills, abilities, or personality characteristics that directly influence his or her job performance.

HR is all abt coordination, dealing with employees, being fair and moreover being patient,

I know these traits are present in both male and female candidates so there is nothing like giving more preferance to the female employees.

While recruiting the preferance is only given to the right candidate not any gender.

I can quote an example of a joint family, like joint family if not properly co-ordinated goes for a toss and it is always a women who does this co-ordination work very well, she knows how to keep everyone happy and united.Likewise a company is also like a family where woman can properly co-ordinate and handle the other responsibilities as well.

I am not telling that men can not, they are equally good as in managing things, as I know many HR of MNC co. who are male.

So it would be biased if we say that women are preffered over men.

A question can also be raised that why in sales there are more male candidates so on this also the answer will be again "Putting the right person at right place."

whosoever is expertise in the job profile will get the job.

Warm regards,
Priyanka Singh

I strongly believe that there is no difference between men and women when it comes to professional life. I also do not agree with all the so called surverys and studies which go out of their way to prove that men are good at some tasks and women in some. I am neither a male chauvinist nor a supporter of feminists. I feel men and women both belong to the same genus and species according to zoology and we should let it remain at that. All other talk is nothing but the chauvinists and the feminists trying to grab some headlines, nothing else.

I believe that a person, irrespective of the gender, is made up of a lot of factors like his background, schooling, circumstances at home, neighbours, friends, etc. These are decisive factors when shaping a person's psyche.

In my 14 years of experience, I have never found anything great about any gender, except that the committed and hard working person was always able to grow, inspite of the gender specific difficulties we have to face. All this talk about genders is nothing but a farce to keep idle minds engaged. I have worked with excellent men/women, rotten men/women. That doesnt give me a right to generalize genders based on my experience alone, much as any stupid survey or study which studies 20-200 people and tries to tell us what half of the human population is !!!
Let us grow up and talk sense friends. Let us respect both genders cos humankind is nothing without any of the two human genders we know of :)

Let us concentrate of what best we can do at work. The rest would follow.

Well Mr Vinay i agree with Mr Bharat that in some areas of HR like Recruitment, Training & Development, Payroll management females are preferred than Males probably because of their inherent ability to analyse and study the other person. However there are some Female HR professionals in the field of labour laws/industrial relations but here the male out mark the female because the sensitivity factors makes the employers apprehensive and makes them to prefer male over female in these areas.

I think u got my point

Bye
