Right now, if I ping someone on hrlink, either public or private, I can go back and delete the ping.

I have been here on hrlink for more than a year and have been wondering if we need to give the option to members to delete their own pings from other members profiles ? I am not worried about if it is a private or a public ping. I would like to know how other members feel about it.

Hi Naveen, I know the process to delete the pings.
My question is, IF members should be given the right to delete pings ?

I have specific instances of some of the female members who told me that specific pings have been deleted by members.

My question to all members is : do you think we can reduce such instances by removing the right to delete our OWN pings in the first place ?

I've been having a problem regarding my pings few months back, when I lost all the pings. I was sorry to lose some information and messages with some members on HRLink.
Administration knows that and they kindly explained that they deleting the pings once they exceed 50.
Since then, I am being cautious and do as suggested; either I send messages and I can be sure that I will keep having them in my inbox, either I save my pings, in separate folders depending on the person I'm talking to or subjects. There is still a warning line written saying that pings more than 50 will be deleted. So, after saving my pings I delete them, to keep the number under 50.

In fact RK mentionned that we should use pings more for short messages to members not in our contact list and use inbox with our contacts.

We should take into account that once we've send a message we can't delete it from the inbox of the person who got, while this is possible for pings.

Now that you asked this question harish it becomes more clear to me why RK wanted to differentiate between pings and messages and how they saw this in the first place.

Hi Harish

Incase any member wants to delete a ping(s) from other members profile he needs to have access to his/her profile. Until and unless they don't pass on their username and password which is confidential no one can delete their pings.

I also agree with Naveen and Claudia's replies

Regards
Pradeep

Hi Naveen,

I want to know this with a backdrop :
If someone has been flirting around with a member, and has the right to delete his/her pings, should he/she be able to do it from the other members' profile ?

Harish,

Even I had the same problem as Claudia, infact as Ramakrishna had told there were only 3 members on this link who lost their entire pings, without any reason!!!

Yes, we feel very sorry, some were so precious, refreshing that you felt to go back n read them on and on...

Now, coming to your questions...Well, yes & no...why?

YES - because, many a times, when I send a ping, it gives me an option to "Edit" it, but when i forget to mark the "private" option, i have to copy the ping, delete it & then again post it with marking it as private...

*** Suggestion :: if that option of changing the "public" ping to "private" ping can be introduced in the edit section itself, i think we can avoid the deleting part !!!

NO - Since, there are some pings which are interactions between two members...there is a conversation there, for whatever reason if I wish to go back & have a flash back of them as ping-2-ping, I need to have both...now how would you be able to read the pings which YOU have send, whereas the other preson has already deleted his/her pings!??

I am not sure about deleting the pings after 50, Ramakrishna, can you help us in this...

it would be very very time consuming to save the pings as Claudia was saying, in different folders for different members...

The only way is to send through messages, but well, even that is time consuming, by the time you go to inbox, click on the message, read, reply, again repeat the process when he/she replies back!!!

Suggestions?

Hi Pradeep, thanks for your response.

You dont need the username and password to delete your OWN pings from other members' profile. hrlink gives you an option to delete your own pings that you have pinged other members.

My point is, should we continue to give members the right to delete their own pings ?

In other networking sites like orkut, you can delete your own scrap from other people's scrap book. Hope I am clear.

Yes Harish, I did understand your point of view...

I would NOT like to have some pings deleted from my ping-box even though by the owner itself!!!

Yes, many might misuse & then we lose the proof to that...

Another suggestion:: Well, may be, we can have an option like "lock" ?

Say A pings B, as long as "B" does not lock that ping, "A" would be able to delete that...but once it is locked by "B"...there is no access from "A" except for viewing the ping...

Many a times, we might not want a particular ping to be sent, we might change our mind, or it might be a mistake e.g. sending a ping to another member!...whatever the reason... I think we should have the right to edit/delete in the initial stage...

But, I guess with this lock system, we could protect & have the pings intact... either for having a track of our conversations, or as a proof...
