Hi Daya,
First let me congratulate you on getting new assignment. So far you have been handling recruitment which is only a fragment of HR and now you are moving on to the big picture.Firstly, in any organization you have to brush up your basics and have thorough knowledge on all functions of HR starting right from manpower planning till seperation.Your new job deals with people with different skills different attitudes and different mindsets and you have to concentrate more on understanding their psyche by maintaining good interpersonal skills and recognizing their abilities.Similarly you have to know the expectations of the management and plan your work and strike a good balance between employees and management thereby winning the managemnt along with winning the employees. You can learn other things about HR - whole policies and all that jargon from any book or web site.
Wish you all success!
Pradeep

Hi Daya,
Congratulations..
As Pradeep told recruitment is a prime function in HR but its only a chunk of the whole. As a HR manager first you need to understand what the Company policies of HR are. Usually, you need to take care of all HR activites right from Recrutiment to Exits. Wherein you need to take care of Induction and Joining Formalities, Training and Development activities for new and existing employees, Performance Appraisals/Performance Management System if the Organisation has, Payroll Management, Leaves and attendance, Grievances of the Employees, attrition Management, Etc. You in the sense you need not do all the A to Z of all activities. You have to allocate the work to your team members and ensure that they do it with Correctness, consistency and completeness.
I hope this will be of little help to you.
All the best. Have a bright career..
Regards,
Manjari

Hi Daya
Firstly Congrats for the new job, pradeep has given all the answers you require ..............
Just i want to add a point to it , Believe in yourselves , Every one needs mentor (ITS NOT MANDATORY) , I personally think this is the time you take points from your senior(mentor), who can help you in this phase,
I mean to say is that , Experience can not teach but it can be shared .....
