Thanks Gopala for a comprehensive data!
Hey Diana, this is what I follow -- jst in brief :)
Initially provided hard copy of the Handbook to the Employees, which comprised of all the policies followed up in the Organization. But then found the Handbook un-attended at their work station.
Thus thought instead wasting paper why not e-mail them a copy of Handbook
Well, at present – to start the day with personal interaction with the HR where in joining formalities are completed and also brief them abt the Start-up-process to be followed.
Then follow-up with the general induction process – formal meet with peers and PM followed with Project briefing and so on. (to sum-up)
It varies everywhere.. company to company , so there shld be more views coming up !

Thanks Gopala...
Very good summary...
I would also like to know, how do you go about Induction?! do you prefer sending a common e-book with all the policies & details of the company to the new joinee? or to hand over a hardcopy of the same ?! or to sit , face to face and explain everything to him/her ?
Just wanted to know different opinions from our HR friends here...
Thanks,
Diana

thanks diana for the lovely issue u raised. for statement wise it seems very simple but in execution or practical terms, its complex and should be customised case to case.
Its true that the 3 issues u raised are part of induction, but nobody cannot say from where to start and which element is relevant.
some companies have a seperate policy about INDUCTION. but some companies take it religiously and do it formally. but some even dont have any clear cut policy, will follow the process.
i can say western countries have a good approach and view about this. y i posted the files just like that ITS FOR BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT INDUCTION IS AND HOW IT GO BY.
open to clarifications

hi diana,
induction is to introduce the organisation to the new joinee - in simple terms. initially its just making to meet all the employees in the organisation. slowly many factors or features keep adding to it.
some of the best practices in INDUCTION process is
Identification of program of induction ( like a training program - with schedule with timings and the people deliver)
Distribution of HR policies to employees ( customized according to function - in certain companies)
Give a briefing whats the co is and in which business they are into, what a candidate will get from the company and what the company expectations are?
some companies give them hard copy . some companies take feedback of induction to know the strengths and weaknesses.
there is no right or wrong in it. companies modifying or designing their induction programs accordingly either needs or best practices around or in the sector
