In recent times it is been common for IT companies to increase their working hours. Increased working hours are placed in addition to SMART goals.
Is it justified under law? Statutary compliance ! Manpower planing!
Could you please comment.

There are coupe of factors involved though IT companies fall under Shops & establishment act, the following act is attached for your ref.
i) Kindly refer the contract as IT orgn has to comply by the working hrs agreed between IT firm & client (specific to employees working in that project).
ii) One has to comply by industry practice. e.g.- In hotel industry 12 hrs shift is common, however in IT firm you can't ask an employee to work for more than 8-9 hrs daily.
You can get them so much work that they have to work more than 8-9 hrs its not a problem. You can't be questioned, legally you can't keep your timings more than 8-9 hrs.
