hi friends.........

iam going on posting topics in the forum.Sorry for the trouble.

After going through number of advertisements in the various job sites,i apply for the job but never get a call from then.so i make it point to call them and fix for an interview.

Unfortunately, they reject in a decent manner that will get back to me after going through the profile, but they never call me again. They r not even giving me the chance to attend the interview.

Is it correct on my part to call the employers directly for fixing an interview???

please guide me.

Thanks

Neil

Hi Uma

I'd like to suggest two things are the possible problems for you to solve.

First, from the post I have seen from you your English here is, at times, inaccurate. Whether that is because you are in a hurry and not watching what you are typing, because you don't read it through properly before you post or for some other reason I don't know. However if you are applying in English it may be affecting your ability to get an interview.

Second, whilst your phoning up is a positive sign in that it shows you are keen to work for the company, trying to fix an interview would be seen as "too pushy" by some employers. I would suggest instead that you ring the employer/HR to ask a few additional and relevant questions about what they want in an applicant before filling in your application. It gets your name remembered, shows you are keen and will help you to better answer the questions on the form and sometimes stop you wasting time applying for jobs you can't get or don't want.

Hi Uma,

Thanks for sharing ur concern.

I think there is nothing wrong in calling the parties when you drop/mail a resume. In fact it is a right thing to remind them/inform them about it.

And for sure definitely the answer from the co. personnel will be the same (The one which u r getting right now)

One important thing you should notice is, it doesn't end up just by calling the number given at the address.

You shud be able to get to the person who actually sorts out the resume/the person who is gonna take the interviews.

It all depends on "how well u represent yourself in the few seconds/minutes you got" while speaking to them.I t not only acts as a introduction call, but also creates a positive impact on the recruiter for your next rounds also.

All the best for your upcoming interviews

Regards

Thanks Uma for sharing this experience.

People hardly get calls from these job portals. Those who get are the fortunates. This had happened to me also. I had tried several times to get in touch with the contact person given at address. I had even mailed the contact person with my CV attached.

The only reason they don't give you a call, may be, for they have posted the requirement in the job portals. They encourage you to apply to the post by clicking "APPLY NOW".

I hope you have also tried this.

Please notice the advertisement date before you apply.

Regards

Dear Uma,

First of all, any forum/article/debate which is posted on this link will be useful to everyone, irrespective of their experience, even if they are not directly contributing or taking part in the discussions, hence; do not hesitate to put in your doubts/problems.
Some have helped me to get to know about other HRs' views on your topics…

We are here to learn and share...

Few points I think could help you:

1) Update your profile; organize it in such a way that the employer should have a clear picture with a simple glance. (Since you are a fresher.)

2) Give a summary, introduce yourself in a short & well prepared covering letter and write about your experiences, skills & what exactly you are looking for. (Do not say “any job”… this shows you have no aim/goal.)

3) If you have some exceptional academic credentials, extra curricular activities, special trainings, do highlight them.

4) When you send your profile by e-mail, make sure you are filling the “subject line”. Be specific about the role which has motivated you to apply. e.g. Applying for the post of HR Assistant or Job.Ref. No.123. NOT just “resume”.

Yes, a follow up call will surely help, there are hundreds of resumes which pour in everyday, but a follow up call, would help your resume get noticed.

You can also try to walk-in. (Your C.V. should be as presentable as you. Good quality print, make sure not to fold/crush/tear. No excuse could justify.)

Make sure you have studied about the Company, prerequisites for the job & make sure the vacancies still exist!

Also prepare to promote yourself, tell them what exactly attracted you / your talents that suit the position / have your profile handy to refer when needed.

Do not demand for an interview…if you prove yourself good, they will surely schedule one.

As Neil had mentioned, English is very very essential…Especially for someone in HR field. Do practice, keep reading/listening/talking in English…books, news papers, news channels do help.

Perfection comes by practice.

If any thing is missing, hope others would fill in.

All the best,

Diana

Hi Uma,
Hope you are doing well, Your problem seems to be the most common among the job seekers.

I would like to suggest you to put more efforts on your resume and make it look good enough to get you call. the other thing is stop calling the employers because if they are really interested in your resume then they will definatley get back to you, No one would like to loose a candidate who is a perfect fit for there position. This i can say, as myself am an employer and i do the same. Add some more points to your resume and make it look different from other and interesting, however remember that your resume should only reflect genuine things which you have done.

Let me know if you need to discuss more. All the best for your future.

Hi Uma,

Thanks for sharing your concern.

Firstly, i would like to say that there is no harm in calling up the parties. The another reason that u r not getting call from the companies, may be because the CV that u have uploaded on any sites is not been filled appropriately & that may be the case where your hard core key skills are not been reflected when an head hunter searchers for the respective profile.
