Employees with a strong desire to accomplish work goals are especially negatively affected by meetings. For them meetings are an annoying interruption to their work and productivity; All too often, employees walk away from a meeting thinking, "That was not a good use of my time, we just sort of talked a lot, and there was no clear purpose or outcome,Ineffective meetings are especially harmful to corporations. Three different studies support the idea that the level of meeting effectiveness is the single most powerful factor in job satisfaction; the more time spent in bad meetings the greater the job dissatisfaction, and the more likely employees are to leave the company.
Meandering or unnecessary meetings cost money, waste time, deflate morale and contribute to turnover—all the more reason to adopt THIS TOPIC is to get some good suggestions/tools to run meetings more efficiently and effectively…….some tools from my side are:
• First find out the necessity of meeting.
• Defining the meeting roles.
• Establishing meeting rules.
• Preparation of next meeting.
• Preparing action agenda.(when, where and for how long to meet)
• Mode of Meeting.
• Getting effective participation.
• Serious fun at meeting
• Staying on track.
• End meeting on time ,on target. and on and positive note.
Engage in a dialogue with the employees, no one likes to hear long, empty speeches.
Ask for a feedback from the team, ask for suggestions, listen to complaints, define the weak points, establish the common goals of the organization and the strategy to be followed.
Use the meeting to brainstorming and also to team building.
I feel each one has to enjoy the process of Knowledge sharing , Team building , brainstorming which are all the overall gains of the successful meetings.
But too many meetings without any outcome or purpose at times when employees morale is down adds even more to the misery.
However a successful manager learns , drives home the point and plans effectively to better management / engagement.
