Hi Anu,
Sorry, I could not get what exactly are you looking for?!
You had post a forum about "break in career" & its importance in applying
for jobs!? & fitting in a role..
Many have given you similar replies & suggestions...
According to your reply, you had a break since you got married, followed by maternity break...which is very normal/common reason for break, for many working women all over the world....
Is there anything else that we have missed out, or I have not mentioned it clearly... do let me know, will try to clarify & help you out...
All the best,
Diana

I would like to know whether a Long Break in once career matter in todays professional market?
My own experince says yes after attending interviews?
Definitely Anu,
This is bcause of duties in nature. For the continuous employees in HR and Admin were aquented with dya to day changings in procedures and systems etc. But whereas for candidate with long break may face difficulties in doing the activities with again learn and act manner. Thats why employers prefer for the persons who are working in other organisations only.

Dear Anu,
Yes, as Suneel had mentioned, its important to be in regular touch with your job, there are always new updates & changes ...in any field, not only HR/Admin, in fact its more essential for technical professionals, to be updated with the latest technologies & also have that constant practice…BUT, this should not be a draw back for those who have had a gap in their career, specially if they have some genuine reasons like::
Pursuing higher studies
Health problems
Relocation
Marriage
Maternity leaves
These s days…due to recession…and companies closing down…
Even though you may not be officially “working”, but it’s always good to be updated with latest changes related to your job profile. Try Books, online articles & debates with other colleagues who would help you come back on your track & be more prepared for the upcoming interviews, instead of feeling lost.
Don’t worry about the years of experience or the break you had, try to prove your knowledge, dedication & zeal towards your career & you will succeed for sure.

Yes it does matter a lot. Also it should not be a long gap for more than a year (this goes in favour of the fairer sex).
But let me tell you that taking a break due to any reason, should not be a problem as long as one is resourceful and does their homework before giving the interviews.

Well very interesting topic ..
My Experience has been that its HR which has too many problems with break or Months of Joining and leaving ...reasons for leaving ...reference check with last employer and so on .
I have seen management or Functional Heads are more concerned abt delivery on the job or capability matrix ..expertise and experience on the jb matters much more than month to month continued jobs and very long lifeline with various employers .
Given practical challenges in sr roles wherein what you bring to the table, collaboration with peer groups, and monthly/quarterly survival challenges are way bigger than mundane acctg/Hr issues i wish all this goes to trash soon .
We are no more in one life one job days .Commitments have shrunk to Role Vs delivery .ROI ...is the Buzz ...on both the sides .
How will you react to unethical practices @ board ...corporate governance ...what"s that ? Satyam is latest example .
