Hi All,

I am working with healthcare industry. I am in a generalist profile and have been recruited in April. Before I joined there were 7 people in the department. The manager who recruited me also joined a few days before me. Along with me a colleague of the manager also joined (although her profile is into recruitments). Earlier there were total 4 people including 2 key people in the department and now the department has grown to the strength of total 9 people with HR head also joining after me. There are three groups in the team: Recruitment (for which the manager+ her colleague is responsible), training (for which an older HR person+1 is responsible) and personnel (for which another old person+2 is responsible) and I am a common resource for everyone as I am responsible for many things which require coordination with everyone.

Earlier I used to report to the manager but now the Head has changed my reporting to him. And probably the manger is having the problem accepting this. In the simple terms I am reporting to all the 4 people but my head feels that I should not be doing so. He wants that I should be handling the activities independently, but for one thing or the other I have to depend on others . He says that he can help me in getting that data from the concerned person but i anot think its okie to be aloof from everyone. And moreover head sits away from us and I sit with the entire team and also he keeps visiting various places as we are coming up with new projects so he is out of office for many days. But the major issue is with the manager. She feels that as she has recruited me hence I am her responsibility and if anyone comes and says anything about me then she warns me against this. Once in funny sense she also gave me an ultimatum by saying that ‘ I’ll always help u but if u try to over shine me then that would be ur last day in the organization’. She gets all the information as to whatever I do and sometimes also threatens me in some way or the other.

I also got to know that the other two old people are also involved into some sort of politics although that has not harmed me till now. But my major cause of worry is as to what should I be doing? Because here more then anything the ego issues are involved. Manager dosent seems to be comfortable with the Head. I don’t want to be in the bad books of anyone (as it may hamper my career) but also I don’t want to upset anyone. And moreover whom should I trust as both (Manager & Head) claim to be doing good to me and my career. The other colleague who was with manager earlier gets all the favors and I get all the bashings. I don’t mind all these but still it hampers my mood.

Seniors plz suggest as to what I should be doing regarding this.

Awaiting your early response

Thanx in advance

HI Supriya,

I understood your probelm, this is the situation where you need to act smartly and get along with the job, or the only solution is Search out a new job. That dosent solve the problem it may be in the new company that you have joined also, watch both the manager and the Head, by observing people you can know from where the problem is arising so that you can act accordingly. All the work you do make sure that you make a point that both of them r knowing so as per the reaction you will know with you have areal problem and get suggestions to get out of the probelm.

Its not so east as i have written here, it takes little time but with patience you have do and prove yourself in the organization that you are the best

Thanks
Bindu

Dear Supriya,
Yaa i can realized your working environment there.
Please note following points may be helpful for you.
1) No one can change others you have to change yourself.
2) Almost every office has such situations ( Strength of this problem may vary from 10% to 50%)
3)Consider this situation that you call as problem ,as opportunity to prove yourself.
4) Follow Bindus advice too.
5) Focus on your work .
6) If you do good things good will happen to you. Behave with them in such a manner that they feel them self shy .
