I got a question for you. When you look at your life and the future that it holds, is failure an option? Seth Godin has a new book coming out called "The Dip."
I got the chance to read an article by Seth entitled "Pushing Past the Dip: How to Become the Best in the World," which previews the aforementioned book. I discovered that there are seven reasons why you and I might fail to become the BEST in the World:
1. You and I run out of time (and quit).
2. You and I run out of money (and quit).
3. You and I get scared (and quit).
4. You're not serious about it (and quit).
5. You lose interest or enthusiasm or settle for being mediocre (and quit).
6. You focus on the short term instead of the long (and quit when the short term gets too hard).
7. You pick the wrong thing at which to be the best in the world (because you don't have the talent).
Seth emphasizes that at least for the first 6, quitting might be an option, if you just don't have the guts or the stuff to make it happen.
So can you and I be the best in the world at something? Possibly. Can we execute our strengths, focus on being our best selves? Absolutely.
If you, my friend, truly believe in your heart that failure is not an option, then I highly encourage you to at least take a quick read of the article I am talking about.
It's true that no one in life settles for mediocrity. Every one of us has a purpose and wants to succeed in reaching that purpose, becoming best in his field. Every one of us wants to excel in his work, find that thing he can be really good at. But how many are willing to keep focusing on that when the path becomes difficult, when reaching the big goal means to climb many obstacles?
It's so true that on the way of becoming best, many fail and many give up, feeling good being mediocre and settling for less, finding that comfort zone and never reaching that first and important dream.
