Dear All,
Please let me know how i can grow consultancy business. I am working as a BM in Lucknow but not very much aware about this place and companies which stands here. we are providing outsourcing and recruitment support to our clients. Now company have 10 branches across india and company starts his business in lucknow also. Please suggest how to grow & capture the market.
Dear Anuj,
I think your main draw back is lack of information about the place you are in.
I am not into consultancy business, but I guess to build a good career as a consultant these are some few important points:
1) Study the city, understand which projects, companies, technologies are doing better and are the “hot cake” for Lucknow.
2) Gather information about all the prospective companies which you can/are looking to tie up with, study and understand their work structure, technologies they work on…etc
3) Have a good database of the best candidates in town, or those who are looking to relocate there…this takes time, you can use any job portal, screen the profiles and store them according to their experience, Co./technology they are working on & type of services you are going to provide.
4) You should also have a good knowledge about how other consultancies are working, what are their charges? because the work structure may be the same everywhere, but it surely defers from city to city, the cost, and the type of contracts you have should be better, fresh & much flexible contracts, lower charges, there are more chances to get a break through.( since you are new in that city) you need to gain “Name” before revenue!
5) Get in touch with the HRs, start with a call, send a mail, go personally, prepare a well planned broacher, brief and complete explanation about your Consultancy.
You should be having one, since there are other branches in India, so just customize it, specific for your city. Make it look unique only for Lucknow!
6) It helps a lot if you can have some good Ads, to market your services…
Hope other HR friends who are in Consultancies come up with more suggestions…
Wishing you all the best,
Diana

Good points from Diana. If I may just add - One thing that is very annoying is when some one mails me anonymously or without proper introduction - I would consider it as spam and you may miss out an opportunity to reach out to customers. So, always get an introduction to a decision maker before sending out a mail.
