Hierarchy in Corporates

I am trying to understand how hierarchy works in Corporates where there is defined process flow and a pyramid structure maintained.

I feel hierarchy should be followed to get things done; allow the flow of information in an absolute direction so there is action/progress and not mere transfer of information.

Amidst constant innovation in information and communication technologies, hierarchical authority structures are giving way to greater decision-making latitude for individuals and more flexible definitions of job activities and this new style of work presents a challenge to existing organizational forms, with some research studies contrasting traditional organizational forms against groups that operate as online communities that are

characterized by personal motivation and the satisfaction of making one's own decisions.

At the same time within the structure there should be various platforms for individuals at all levels to voice out their thougts and ideas. Many times; initiatives which an employee wants to take; the shared ideas are left the immediate manager itself for many reasons.

How much right would it be to talk your ideas out; though it is not listed in KRA?

- Employees feel very insecured to talk to top management though they have some brilliant ideas to share.

- Employees complain that their immediate boss does not accept or even consider when they talk about a solution for an issuee.

Here; the point is not to escalte but voice your thought if it can be implemented. Reward or recognition is not what is expected but definitely listen to what an employee as a stake holder of the company has to say.

Due to lack of receipants; individuals do not want to think beyond their job and work places become monotonous with-in their domain of work.

Townhall meetings and online portals are one such solution to this situation. In what other ways can these hierarchial issues be learnt and tackled.

It would be nice to know about any such issues faced by my friends on this network and what would be a way to handle it.

Waiting to hear from you....
