Dear,
Yes 100% you can change your carrier in HR. But can i know why you would like to change bcz in our carrier first 5 year we have to give input and after that we are getting output. You already have finish 3 year in IT then why you want to shift.?
HR is very interesting filed but I can personally advice you don't change your field.

Hi Solomon,
I think, to become a really effective HR professional, you need to have proper knowledge of HR Concepts as well as good academic qualification.
As HR , on first instance look very easy to handle job but when it comes to stratefic issues / people issues/ your personal career advancement, a thorough knowledge of ER, OB, OD, Comp Mgt come into play.
So be well equipped & then go for HR
Regards,
Girish

Hi Solomon,
Though it is possible to shift to HR, the transition should be smooth and fruitful. So what can you do to shift to HR?.. Don't just jump in to HR straight away..
Firstly see how strong are you in the present field (software) what technical skills you have and learn others (atleast basics) so that it will help you while taking technical interviews.
Secondly do a SWOT analysis of yours and see what are the real opportunities in the selected field for a software guy... (particularly during recession)
Third, browse through jobs that ask for technical recruiters, US recruitment, and similar profiles. most of the US staffing firms (located in India) will look for good software guys and they will train you in recruiting techniques according to the requirement. Most of them require you to work in night shifts, so get prepared for it.
Fourth, if you happen to get through the 3rd step, CONGRATS YOU MADE IT TO HR WORLD. The next step would be to understand the basics of HRM/HRD and their individual functions (T&D, PM, CnB, etc) and dynamics in corporate world.
Fifth - to understand the fourth step you have to join for small HR courses offered by institutes and get certified. Later shift from US recruiting to corporate hiring in a big/medium company.. while doing so join for MBA in distance after checking with employer if they promote such people to next level (Since most organizations depend on full time MBA HR's).
Sixth - If above point is acceptable to most employers then choose a good MBA Distance program from good Indian institute/university and finish it with determination.
Seventh - if successful in sixth... HURRAH!!! you are a HR PRO man!!!
ALL THE BEST
