Well, I have spent most of the 11yrs of my career in recruitment and I have always felt that I have helped build the organisation to the heights it is going today.....

Lets try taking a fresh look towards recruitment...why dont we see ourselves as a "GATEKEEPER" ...compare your college gatekeeper to yourself...its as important....he / she was the person who decided and scrutinised everybody getting into the campus...similarly we in the recruitment fraternity are the gates that the candidates have to cross / convince before we let anybody work in the organisatioins we work for...that I dont think is a job that can be done by any "TOM , DICK and HARRY"...I agree this is not rocket science but recruitting needs certain inherent competencies such as ....

Ability to Source
Ability to Sell
Ability to Negotiate
Ability to understand the business needs
Ability to understand the technology (in case of IT hiring).

Am sure all of you will agree that all these abilities are not common.

Well there are a many more abilities that a recruiter needs to have, the list will go on..however...like we always say in recruitment "there never exists a 100% fit candidate"...there is always some scope to improve on our abilities and develop the recruiters qualities.

People are building blocks of every organisation ..not the machines or systems...Recruitment is a function which helps the organisation assemble these building blocks under one roof. Hence, I feel that recruitment is a very business critical function like every other function and its not a easy job as some people think it is..

I would like to say that "GRASS is always greener on the other side of the fence" for people who say that Recruitment is a easy job that can be done by any body. It needs some specialised skills and it takes time and a lot of learning and disappointments to learn those skills.

I hope I have answered to the topic and am sure all of us in the RECRUITMENT FUNCTION DESERVE TO BE APPLAUDED FOR DOING A GOOD JOB IN BUILDING THE ORGANISATIONS THAT WE WORK IN.

THANK YOU ALL..
Pritesh.
