Hi Guys,

I am a Recruiter. I find people degrading recruiment jobs when compared to other roles of HR!! I really don't understand the reason for this. I have started my carrier as a recruiter after completing my MBA. I have heard many people saying "any Tom, Dick and Harry can do the recruitment job"!!!

What have you guys got to say on this!!!

I would like to share my knowledge on this topic. As said by Princy, any Tom, Dick and Harry can do the recruitment job butâ€Â¦.
â€Â¢ A HR recruiter knows the right way to get a right candidate.
â€Â¢ A HR recruiter expertise in the same field and has the thorough knowledge on the recruitment methods and they gain through their experience, the ability to judge other candidates behaviors, abilities, strengths and weakness.
â€Â¢ HR recruiter has got the ability to recruit the right candidate for the right job in a very short period.
â€Â¢ A HR recruiter use their skills to get the right candidate but others does hard work to recruit a candidate. A skill is more important than putting hard work to it.

This doesn’t stop here, it goes on and onâ€Â¦Ã¢€Â¦

Being a Recruiter is not an easy Task, there are lots of hurdles involved till the closure is made.

If its not one thing, there's an other difficulty. So by the middle of the middle journey, most of the recruiters even me, sometimes gets vexed and it might potray as recruiting in general especially if being in a start up consultancy is very diffcult.

;)

Well, I have spent most of the 11yrs of my career in recruitment and I have always felt that I have helped build the organisation to the heights it is going today.....

Lets try taking a fresh look towards recruitment...why dont we see ourselves as a "GATEKEEPER" ...compare your college gatekeeper to yourself...its as important....he / she was the person who decided and scrutinised everybody getting into the campus...similarly we in the recruitment fraternity are the gates that the candidates have to cross / convince before we let anybody work in the organisatioins we work for...that I dont think is a job that can be done by any "TOM , DICK and HARRY"...I agree this is not rocket science but recruitting needs certain inherent competencies such as ....

Ability to Source
Ability to Sell
Ability to Negotiate
Ability to understand the business needs
Ability to understand the technology (in case of IT hiring).

Am sure all of you will agree that all these abilities are not common.

Well there are a many more abilities that a recruiter needs to have, the list will go on..however...like we always say in recruitment "there never exists a 100% fit candidate"...there is always some scope to improve on our abilities and develop the recruiters qualities.

People are building blocks of every organisation ..not the machines or systems...Recruitment is a function which helps the organisation assemble these building blocks under one roof. Hence, I feel that recruitment is a very business critical function like every other function and its not a easy job as some people think it is..

I would like to say that "GRASS is always greener on the other side of the fence" for people who say that Recruitment is a easy job that can be done by any body. It needs some specialised skills and it takes time and a lot of learning and disappointments to learn those skills.

I hope I have answered to the topic and am sure all of us in the RECRUITMENT FUNCTION DESERVE TO BE APPLAUDED FOR DOING A GOOD JOB IN BUILDING THE ORGANISATIONS THAT WE WORK IN.

THANK YOU ALL..
Pritesh.

Hi...I believe if 'recruitment' as a profession is taken up after doing your MBA in HR, there is no question of being abased about it coz it definitely is in the same domain but I strongly feel that the if people say that 'any tom, dick or harry can do recruitment', then it is all because of the consulting firms or small companies and BPO's who are ready to hire graduates who are fresh out of colleges to undertake the recruitment function coz it requires less of training required to be given to the incumbent to understand how recruitment functions.

If you are successful and improve the ability to move across the HR Roles would be a great thing. Not that one starts with an idea of retiring in Recruitment as a responsibility.

Just think any role should move towards Business Head - CEO / Starting an own enterprise.
