What is the purpose of life? The purpose of life is ‘life’ itself. It is said that if you are going to become a doctor, become a good doctor and try to gather as much knowledge as you can. Initially, such replies seem adequate. However, it is only later that you get the higher answer: The goal of human life is that ‘life should know life’. The meaning of life is the inner experience within each one of us, termed Self, Witness, Allah, God, Ishwar, Lord, etc. It is the living (sentient) consciousness within us due to which this body is alive and moving. The body moves only because of the self (consciousness), the living entity within us. That is why only life has value. Therefore, let life return unto life. When the life in a body returns unto life, it is called self-realization. ‘The goal of life is life’ means that the purpose of human life is to achieve self-realization, and being stabilized in that experience, i.e., self-stabilization.



Let us try to understand the meaning of ‘life returning to life’ further. There are seven levels of consciousness. You have to know all the seven levels. When you reach the seventh or highest level, only ‘one’ will remain. You will experience the oneness of all the beings and objects in the universe. The goal of life is to attain to that one. In order to understand the purpose of life in simpler words, it can be said that the goal of human life is to open up, blossom, and play the game of life. This implies that you have to explore all the possibilities that lie within you. The complete possibility of an individual is realized once he opens up fully, blossoms fully, and plays out the entire game of life. This means that once he realizes that it is God’s game that is being played out on this earth, he too will begin to play this game in the right manner, and only then will he achieve the purpose of life. Every being on this earth starts out on this path. Every flower in the garden sets out to bloom. It’s another thing that before blooming fully, some flowers break from the stem, some are blown away by the winds, some get plucked by people, and some are eaten by worms or destroyed by diseases. But the purpose of each flower is to blossom fully and to spread its fragrance, with the help of the breeze, to one and all. To achieve this goal, we should look around to see what system or path we can follow to reach our goal as fast as possible. This is the goal of human life for each and every one. However, because we are not aware that this is the purpose of our life, we don’t work on it. Only when it becomes clear, we start working on it. Then we won’t miss a single opportunity that helps us progress. We won’t miss a single message that will take us further on the path of truth.
