There have been multiple issues regarding payment of wages in the current scenario where recession has grabbed every industry. The honest and trustworthy employees choose to stay back because of their long relationships but there are some employees who stand to fight for their rights and demand adequate salary.

There were many companies who lay off their employees without providing them with their basic salary. The company does promise to pay them but asks for a stipulated amount of time but the wait seems to be futile. Promises are made that never come true. What should such individuals do?

The foremost requirement is that every employee should be aware of their rights. The payment of wages act 1936 says the wages of every person employed is paid. When less than 1000 persons are employed they shall be paid before the expiry of the 7th day of the following month. When more than 1000 workers are employed, before the expiry of the 10th day of the following month. {Section 5}

Unity is required to build each employees confidence as well as to get things done. A single break in the union can hamper every individual. The light of unity is very powerful and it can enlighten the masses. A single hand may not manifest changes but when several hands join, the strength is so much that it becomes mandatory to introduce a change.

Do not give up. Even after repeated reminders, if you do not get your due, speak up. Once you let go it gives out the signal that the employer can do it again. If the company has been loyal to you throughout and you trust their intentions, then it is better if you wait for a while. The company might take some time to cope up with the situation and pay debts hence maintain your calm and be patient.

Going to an attorney should be your last step. You do not get what you deserve even after trying hard, and then an attorney’s door can be knocked. If you step on this path be ready to face several challenges. This decision should be made wisely and not in haste. Consult few bright minded individuals who know about the legal formalities before taking this huge step.

“You should remember right is right even if everyone is against it and wrong is wrong even if everyone is for it”.
