Of-course, Every policy is important for organisation whether startup or SME or MNC or Large Corporation...

This note focus on the complexity that it can have to manage the early stage practices/mistakes/decisions.. Lets focus on Leave Policy. Every employee who joins the organization need to be provided with leaves based on the Industry / Establishment. If you are a manufacturing unit, you may follow the Factories act... or a shop/office may fall in the category of Shops and Establishments Act. There are different types of leaves applicable to the employees as per the Law. One can also make their own policies within the frameworks of the above Acts.

At start if you do not have a clear understanding of the leaves available to employees there are chances that the pattern of utilization by employees would be different based on their needs. Hence, when you want to make sure that you wanted to have a policy in place and administer after say 3-4 years some of the challenges would be as follows:

- A group of people who may have availed more compared to others. There are chances that initial stages the Leaves would have not been updated and adjusted in salary for excess usage.

- Your new policy after a point needs to have the equality built in to make sure the balances as on that date are accurate and cannot be on an adhoc basis.

We have cases where its took more than 3-4 months to collate the historical data from various sources of company.

Do you want to make life as complicated than just putting in the right policy at right time... Its also costs the senior management time at the time of growth....This would help the organisation to project as a process oriented and not less than any MNC interms of processes and systems to a prospective employee.

Please do standby for more of such sharings..... If you have a question do post.....
