Mumbai`s ISO-rated dabbawalas have now become delivery agents for a mutual fund.
"Our dabbas never get lost or are never mixed up. So the advertisement is sure to reach people," said Umesh Kawale, a dabbawala.
The humble lunch box is latest marketing device for India Inc that is using the dabawalas to sell everything from soft drinks to banking products.
Five thousand dabbawalas in Mumbai operate a unique system of picking up packed lunch from homes and delivering it on time to anyone anywhere in the city.
It has brought in extra income for the dabbawalas, anywhere between fifty to hundred rupees a day.
But does the system work?
"Often it is of use to me. These things come in papers too but this is hand delivered to me," said Devjibhai, shopkeeper.
For those who don`t want their communication to be lost in the crowd, a dabbawala can be the best bet. there is also an assurance that your message will reach at least one lakh people at lunch time when they are relatively free and relaxed.
