Inspiration is something you cannot summon at will. Inspiration is not far away, we just need to know where to look for it. Inspiration most often arises when I am at my most vulnerable, on my way down creatively or emotionally. Inspiration can also come from seemingly trivial things, too. Inspiration may not belong to us, but it is only we who can be inspired.

Inspiration is like picking up one of those blinky things in a video game that makes you invincible for awhile. Inspiration is a magical thing, a productivity multiplier, a motivator. Inspiration makes us choose, it doesn`t do our choosing for us. Inspiration, in other words, is a kind of God-term; it refers to something we think of as essential but that we can`t, or may not want to, understand. Inspiration is an inchoate process that cannot really be legislated.
Inspired
There is indeed no question about the original implications of the term: for primitive religious thought the "inspired" person was under the control of a supernatural influence which inhibited the use of his normal faculties. An inspiration which is not accompanied by a revelation, which is adapted to the normal play of the faculties of the human soul, which can determine the will of the inspired writer by motives of a human order, does not necessarily suppose that he who is its object is himself conscious of it. However, we must not represent the Inspirer as putting a ready amde book in the mind of the inspired person.
Gift
To be inspired has to do with serendipity: the gift of stumbling upon things you weren’t looking for. Even in terrible times, we are still offered that gracious gift of creativity, that possibility to transform, to dream of radical new solutions. It is not news, even though it is continually shocking to see, just how much envy insidiously corrodes our pleasure in other people`s gifts and talents.
The word inspiration comes by way of the Latin and the King James translations of the Greek word ?e?p?e?st?? (theopneustos, literally, "God-breathed") found in 2 Tim 3. The belief of the Jews is the inspiration of the Scriptures did not diminsh from the time in which they were dispersed throughout the world, without temple, without altar, without priests; on the contrary this faith increased so much that it took the place of everything else. Every Christian sect still deserving that name believes in the inspiration of the Scriptures, although several have more or less altered the idea of inspiration. History alone allows us to establish the fact that Jews and Christians have always believed in the inspiration of the Bible. Different groups understand the meaning and details of inspiration in different ways. The grace of inspiration does not exempt the writer from personal effort, nor does it insure the perfection of his work from an artistic point of view. Inspiration or insight, for me, comes from working.
