A man while cutting a branch of tree near a river, his axe slipped from his hand and fell in the river. He came down to the river and was searching for the axe. Then goddess Ganga appeared from the river and wanted to test the honesty of the man.
Goddess asked, ‘what are you searching for?’,
The man replied ‘the axe that he lost’
Goddess took out a golden axe from the river and asked, ‘is it your’s?’
The man replied ‘no’.
Then goddess took out a silver axe and asked, ‘is it your’s?’
The man again replied ‘no’.
Then goddess took out the iron axe and asked, ‘is it your’s?’
The man replied ‘yes’.
Goddess, pleased upon the honesty of the man, handed over all the three axes to the man.
The man gladly took all the three axes to his home and informed the incident to his wife. On the next day, his wife left home in expectation of more wealth from goddess, but could not return in time. The man not finding his wife in his home started searching for her along the river. On seeing the man once again, Goddess appeared before him and wanted to know the reason. The man replied that his wife is missing.
Goddess shown him a most beauful women that he ever seen in his life and asked ‘is this your wife?’
The man replied ‘yes’.
Goddess got surprise over the change of his attitude and asked the reason for it.
