Nice inputs by HARISH, CLAUDIA & others.

-----Let me clearify what happens if you choose not to vote.------

I VOTE NOBODY... This is called "49-O".

Did you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth, confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone! Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O".

Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"...because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed and they cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them.

But I believe we all should vote. If we choose not to vote, we are wasting the money put by Government of India for the election process, which amounts to crores of rupees. Also that by choosing not to vote, we are not helping but just making the situation get more complex with no one to streamline politics and Government. so PLEASE DO VOTE !!

----Secondly, WHAT CAN BE DONE NOW ?? Harish has put in interesting work on this. I would like to add on it, with the following suggestions.----

Well the way things are in the existing scenario, any change cannot bring immediate results. Thus talking about xyz things to be done in no time is being unrealistic. I would like to share few issues here, which we (India) can address and thus bring in the necessary "CHANGE WE NEED" (As Obama's campaign read) in few months to come.

1) Political Sanitasation:
This includes setting up a new system or process for modification in political reforms. No person with a criminal record should be allowed to contest in polls and enter the political arena. There should be not more than 4 political parties. This would help the citizens to help understand their politicians and who they represent without confusion. There should be certain eligibility terms for constesting polls and entering politics such as a proven education degree from the Govt of India recognized colleges and universities, should have had served the government organization for atleast 10 years.

Doing so, we shall be able to get the right kind of people to run the political governance in India. This would streamline the politics, devoid of discrepencies in terms of corruption, gundas.

Go out and vote. Not voting would be a severe crime to commit against a politically ailing India (Not to mention the death of your conscience as and Indian citizen !!).

2) Reinforce the Defence mechanism:
More percentage of the budget should be spent on modernizing the defence forces like the paramilitary forces, the Police force, the NSGs, the CISFs etc apart from the armed forces like Army, Navy, Airforce. Better equipment should be provided to them, and constant drills should be conducted so that the equipments may not get corroded/disfunctional etc.

All the intelligence agencies within the country right from the army, navy, IB etc should come under one wing and form a single Federal Intelligence Agency. This would avoid confusion on intelligence sharing and overlapping and re-assessment of potential intelligence information, provide swift action and re-action needed, and give muscle to the intelligence structure. Something like the MOSSAD (Intelligence Agency of Israel). Coordinate with the Interpol with intense follow ups and bring the perpetrators of terrors to justice.

Strengthen domestic defence structure with some kind of a provision like the POTA or the PATRIOT ACT (USA Homeland Security)

3) Foreign Policy focussed on terrorism of all kinds:
Form foreign policy which can provide a common platform to share intelligence, act conglomerately, and strict on terrorism. Form major alliances with countries having major influence on the war on terror and enforce harsh diplomatic pressures on the countries aiding terrorism. Identify the countries aiding terrorism and give them ultimatum with internal bodies putting economic pressure (sanctions) on them.

4) Beware of getting into emotions:
It is accepted that the attacks were a heinous act with senseless goals of self-possessed maniacs. The sentiments are high, and people of India are being Vocal as the voice of the masses is heard loud and clear on the solidarity procession on 3rd Dec '08 in front of TAJ MAHAL HOTEL with candles.

But what we need to understand that the reactions of India from hereon should not be bouyed by the raging sentiments of the masses. All options are open, but getting into even a small scale conflict to a large scale offensive (War) would be drowning yourself more into the cold, treacherous water. This would lead financial implications that would surpass even the worst fear of global meltdown. Economy will go weak with spending on war mounting. This would lead to total collapse of a well managed society.

Instead severe diplomatic pressure should the put upon by the terror-host country (obviously our western neighbouring country) by the international nations community. This would yield us far better results in bringing the perpetrators of terror to justice.

THE QUESTION THAT STILL REMAINS: WILL ALL THIS EVER HAPPEN AS MENTIONED? OR WE WILL GO BACK AGAIN TO OUR COMFORT ZONES AND SAY AGAIN

" ISME KYA KARNEKA, JO HOGA DEKHA JAYEGA !!"

TIME TO ACT RESPONSIBLE, INDIVIDUALLY TOWARDS OUR NATION OF BRAVES !! (BE EVER-VIGILANT, EXERCISE EACH RIGHT OF YOUR CITIZENSHIP, AND DO VOTE)

Because the Shabby barber is the one whose place was all messy with hairs and he was unshaven and wild hairdo. This proves that his shop is visited by all the villagers often for haircut and that he must be good at his job to attract all the crowd.

On the other hand, the barber with clean shop and clean looks was the barber who had no clients as he was not considered as good as the untidy barber.

Thus the man went into the untidy barber's shop for haircut !! :)
