HR Zone » General Awareness » What is the real worth or meaning of HR in today's scenario where HR has become so vague?Specially recruitments are considered as sales or telecalling.
Hi Atul,
Thanks for the reply..i do respect my job .currently i am into Generalist profile but still into recruiting, makeing offerletters and sometimes policies....
Why still business leader are taking HR as a supporting Function and not into Strategy management or into Bord of Directors??
Why HR is ONLY AND ONLY into recruitments...and now a days its just a telesales????
When we make our checklist of our HR-Generalist profiles we will come to know that we are only into placing candidates into right job....
Hai Dharni... (good question, normally recruiter always have this question in their mind while sourcing candidates)..
HR is not a vague function.... HR mainly deals with "Attracting" & "Retaining" the best talent available to fulfill org goals and objective. All the other sub fuctions (HRP, HRD and HRM) are done by keeping these 2 things as objective. Recruitment is an important fuction of HRP (Planning).
I can understand....
* As now a days Placement Consultancies perform recruitment as sales job. For them its is sales, their job is to source maximum no. of candidates to close the vacant position. So they work on targets and telecalling..
* Even companies where attrition rate is too high also perfrom recruitment as a sales job because they have to ATTRACT candidates for their jobs (normally with BPO's, Financials comp like Insurance, MF, Loans, Cr Cards etc).
What is Sales:
Its pushing our Products, Services, Processes to our Customers.
Sales is a part of life.. Everyone does sales, even in their Family, among Friends, with Customers, Clients (for personal reasons - to impress people - not for business).
eg-Even in training activities first trainer use to mention his/her USP's (which includes his expertise, qualification., exp), its all a part of sales.
Not only trainer every one use to mention their core competencies in introduction its a type of sales.
But for Corporate/Companies recruitment is not sales. Behind all sucessful people their are hands of some good (gr8) subordinates (employees). And these employees are gathered though Recruitment which sometimes includes telecalling.
Therefore, HR is not a Vague function.
HR contributes towards organizations development.
This is my view Dharni if you have any other opinion then please share it with me.
With regards,
Vinay

This is actually true.. Recruitment is nothing more than a sales job.
in sales there are customers, in recruitments u have candidates.
in sales u have targets here u have SLA
and most important there u have to close the sale and here u have to take the candidate on board.
communication and knowledge is the key of sucess in both the fields.
Resepct your Job.....

Hi Dharni,
I have a different opinion on Recruitments being only the sales job. I feel the main focus of recruitments is to reduce attrition. Recruitment itself is a startegic decision and requires utmost care in forwarding any candidate further. Recruitment is not only forwarding resumes but also giving your viewpoint on y this candidate has been put forward? the workforce selected by you forms part of all front line people which effects the prosperity of business.
I agree that people perception requires to be changed from HR being only support function to strategic business partner. Also, i have seen established HR deprtments being part of highest management body and playing a vital role in people management but i m sure at the same time that such image comes with time, hard work and good leadership. Lot of challenges ahead but then we are ready to face it, aren't we????

Most of the people who complain and whine about HR being dull and vague .It my opinion that they didn't have a career plan and took up the HR course because their friends joined ant course .Believe me if you are one of those you need a career change right now.
Hi Dharni,
I don't agree with the view that the HR in Present Scenario is Vague. HR is not only about Recruitment it also has other aspects like Performance management, Payroll mgmt,Greivances handling etc.
If HR is seen from a generalist perspective it is a quite challenging job posing a new challenge every day that leaves you a learning experience at the end of the day so do the Specialist Job.
For instance Recruitment deals with acquiring manpower wherein you have to shortlist the candidates and interact them which also gives a learning experience a chance to introspect interms our competencies.
Every job at some point of time appears to be monotonus or boring and makes you feel like walking out of the job and we have to manage ourselves to cope up with it in a positive attitude as Problems require solutions and not solutions are governed by problems.
