Here is a quick note to get started...

Let's not discuss the GENERIC skills that are critical for any career. For example, attitude, self discipline, values, honesty, etc.

Let's focus on the SPECIFIC skills needed for success in HR career.

According to me 5 key skills for a HR Professionals are:

1.Positive Attitude
2.Networking.
3.Priroty to "WE" concept rather than "I" concept i.e giving preference to a team effort.
4.Patience
5.Self Motivator.

Hi Ekta,

Totally agree to the points you have mentioned just to add on few skills to your points, a successful HR person needs to possess:-

1.) People Handling skills.

2.) He/She must be a Good Listener.

3.) Has to be a innovative thinker, should try to think out of the box.

4.) Has to be open to new ideas.

5.) Has to be a quick learner.

According to me 5 key skills for any HR Professional are:

1. Be professional (in all sense :) ) and not to let emotional/friendship influence you/ your work
2. Passion and commitment towards your work
3. Assess and Analyse and then conclude
4. Right Attitude - without this skills, knowledge, experience etc doesn't work.
5. Be Self Critical

Let me think,

In my opinion, some other points which makes a successful HR can be
1) Very Strong
2) Be a Cheerful person
3) Empathetic but non-Emotional
4) Ability to understand the mindset/b a mind reader
5) b a leader

1. Ability to put urself in the shoes of employees and understand them
2. Ability to balance emotions
3. Strong networking abilities
4. Confidence and trust in the abilities of self
5. People management skills

staff-to maximize your contribution. Get in the habit of asking penetrating questions of your staff and giving them the time to research the answers. The more you ask, the more you-and they-will learn.

Great topic to discuss...

In my view these would be the prominent things an HR Should have:

1)Smart and Sharp thinking
2)A good Negotiator (towards both the employer and the employee)
3)Empathatic to the employees but not emotional in any circumstance.
4)An always "I am there for help attitude".
5)and Always carry a Smile :)
