Hi Uma,

Congrats that you promoted to BD !!

Even though i am not the professional, i have a basic idea, thought to share with you.

you need to develop the business or expand the business.
ie.. bringing more profit to Company !

Focus on Problems and try to solve.
Strategic planning.
New Opportunities.
try to reach new markets.
Research and analys.
Marketing.
Branding.

* look what exactly does your consultancy handles whether IT, ITES or other Industry.

*find out the particular clients and speak to them or share with them your companies achievments and professional Recruitment talent, mention your goals.. and past records etc.

*Try to convince the client about the target you can achieve in the given time.

*If he says yes.. the rest is vendors policies... !!

The answer depends on what your Consultancy does and what your target market is.

Can you tell us that first please?

Dear Neil

We are basically Non-IT recruiters. Now we are planning to expand our business by focusing on other industries like KPO, Engineering Companies.

My major role is to bring new clients for our company. How should i start with this process?

Hi Uma,

Congratulation, I posses a limited knowledge on Business development, but would like to share my exposure.

Since yours is a Non- IT sector, Try concentrating on Banks, Financial sector, FMCG etc which hire on frequent bases.

You can Google for these company's website, get through the board number to the HR department, Pitch in your services.

If you get a positive revert, take his/her E-mail ID & send in your company profile to them. Even if they dont have an immediate requirement, you can still send your profile for future contact.

Try to get an appointment for a presentation. Give him an attractive one and sign the dotted lines.

It may sound easy but it is definitely a challenging experience to have,

All the Best..!

Hi Uma,

Congrats,

Below are my suggestions.,

1, Browse Naukri/monster/timesjob.
2, Search for similar openings / similar companies which your consultancy deals with.
3, Make a note of the hot positions in the market similar your mode of business.
4, Try gathering the details of HR people who posted the jobs.
5, Get connected to the numbers which they have given.
6, Mail across your ppt / details of your consultancy to that particular person.
7, Follow up with them and find out the status, fix up an appointment & meet them to express your business & needs in detail.
8, Fix up a self-target, speak with lot of people (HR) about your consultancy and business. Try to meet them by person and if possible give them a handout/pamphlets explaining your org's business and process and be very clear as why the company should give requirements to you and what is so special about your consultancy.

Hope the above points are of some use to you. Do let me know if you need any clarifications in this regards.

Warm Regards,
Swaminathan.

Three rules to help you along the way.

Rule 1 - Know their business: If you are talking to potential clients you need to show you know what they do, what their competition is doing, what challenges they face and how you can help.

Rule 2 - Network: Professional Associations, Targeted Recruitment fairs etc. Never forget the rule of 6 degrees of separation.

Rule 3 - Analyse your opposition : Look at what they are doing, do it better. If necessary recruit a star or two from them.

These is not a sequence of steps, look on them more as three balls you have to juggle, keep them all in the air all the time.

Good luck.

Neil

Note, Engineers are generally practical people who usually don't respond well to "Business Speak" they straight talker is often the more valued person.

Hi Uma,

First of all Congratulations!!!!!

As a BDM:

Introduce your self with the existing contacts in the sales data base.

Also note different type of query asked by the clinets.

Prepare your self with a PPT how to explain about the consultancy
and the benefits to the customer.

Search for the new organisations upcoming through google and News papers.

Have a strategic planning.
