Dear All,

I'm a member of a (spiritual) voluntary organization. We are doing a lot of social service activities regularly. Almost 20 - 30 youth members take active part in all those activities. We had recently adopted a village in the outer of chennai & planned some activities to develop the village.. So, i thought of sharing this subject here in HRLink to get some inputs from people here. As HR is meant for humanity basically & people here would definitely be involved in social service activities or community development activities.

Please do give your suggestions/inputs which can be implemented for this noble cause. We have planned the activities only on sundays as everybody are employed & sundays can be dedicated for this purpose. As of now 35 - 40 weeks had been scheduled & planned based on the survey we had in that village.. Our motto is not to help them physically, but also teach/train them in something which can be useful for their survival.

I request you all to share your views in this regards, give me some suggestions & your ideas can be really helpful, May be some of it can really change their lifestyle too..

Awaiting your responses eagerly.

Warm Regards,

Swaminathan.

Hi Priya,

There are almost 80 - 90 families, with varied age groups.. We cannot expect them to show interest on professional training, as most of them are masons & labors.. So, we have planned trainings like tailoring classes, embroidery classes etc for women. For gents we had planned to get spices & cereals in wholesale to make packets & give back to the market which would fetch them some good money., Only for gents, we are finding the difficulty to organize a training as everybody is confused which would be the right thing & bring them in completely. Pls suggest..

Money shouldn't be a problem if it is really worth spending. And the idea for which the money is spent should really help the people benefited. Such plans can definitely be implemented.. However, ideas are most welcome :)

Hi Swami ,
Your efforts sounds appreciative , nothing should,t just go for birds first try to find out the natural sources and the other sources which they are depending on to get their Bread and butter ,and then work on adding up any advanced things to increase their profits (Ex : handy crafts , Wood Carving and painting , )suggesting them to do right things and sell those things in a right place where they can get more money , we also can suggest them to get loans from few of the organizations where if they can show their work by documenting it that they can surely be successfull in doing that they can avail a loan.would let you know more about this .
Cheers,
Dev.

Hi Swami!
My grateful thanks to you for taking up this job and your concern to do social service is very appreciable.Do it with passion and definitely you achieve not only lot of satisfaction but also makes you mentally a lot happy than all of us out here.
Illiteracy and health are two important issues that needs to be tackled in villages of rural India. They have to be taken care of properly and you may chalk out programmes to make them at least literate in basics and as far as health part is concerned you may take help of some doctors and arrange free medical camps in various disciplines periodically and distribute medicines at free of cost. You may take help of various govt agencies/govt doctors and also voluntary agencies like rotary club and red cross etc for conducting medical camps. Please add AIDS awareness in your agenda at any cost and don't ignore this.
In addition, you may concentrate on their other specific problems, if any, like drinking water etc and extend service in those areas also if possible.
Wish you all success!
Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.. Yes, that is our main areas of concentration. We had planned medical camps, diabetic camps, veterinary camps, blood screening camps in our schedule, AIDS awareness program is an excellent idea & with that we can add awareness of SWINE FLU & precautionary steps need to be taken to avoid it.. To literate the elders may not be possible, but for the children we have some schemes & i hope those ideas would be of great help to them. If you have any ideas on this, please do let me know..

Warm Regards,
Swaminathan.

Hi swami

Ur efforts are certainly laudable. SInce most of the people from the target audience are employed, my suggestion would be to group them on basis of the type of jobs they are doing and run skill enhancement programmes. Also you can make extra efforts towards educating their children
