Spotting Resume Fraud - Trustworthy staff are key to prevent Fraud

A client of H&A hired a Senior Operations Manager who had faired excellently in all his interview rounds. However, few months later the management started to doubt the Subject’s ability as he was not able to deliver on the basic tasks of the job he was hired for. This affected the company's operation delivery and resulted in financial losses. As suggested by H&A, the client agreed and tasked us to conduct resume validation of the Subject.



H&A Approach

H&A’s pre employment screening team conducted detailed background check of the Subject. Intelligence collected from credible sources revealed that though the Subject had prior work experience, the responsibilities he had mentioned on his resumes were nowhere close to what he was handling in his previous jobs. Further it was found that the Subject had a friend in the company who had shared the job profile and helped him create a resume suiting the eligibility criteria. He had also briefed him on the expected questions in the interview and how to answer them in the context of the client’s requirement.



Conclusion

Experience tells us that resume frauds are common. In fact, such a fraud is a subset of the larger category of unethical behaviour commonly referred to as ‘job fraud’. This case highlights the consequence of resume fraud and how background screening at the recruitment stage can help spot bogus CV's or references and screen out potential troublemakers and nonperformers.
