You are the Director (HR) of an advertising company called, “Idea Factory”. The company has offices in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The total number of employees in India is 500.

The company intends to open offices in Canada and London in 2010(February) to cater to the services of some partners/sister concerns and branches of the client companies in India of “Idea Factory”.

how would you Formulate a detailed Human resource Planning Process and also highlight on the forecasted figure of manpower needs. Mention what factors should be taken into consideration while making the plan.

Employment laws in Canada and the UK are very different from India. I would advise getting a competent partner/consultant on-board early in the project to help with this.

Dear Priya,

This is something which requires excellent knowledge in Job Analysis, which may lead to Job Description, then to recruitment. Detailed study is required to perform a job analysis which may include industrial engineering to make it more meaningful when opening offices internationally. Lot of factors would have to be considered in this. It would better to seek help from an HR Consulting firm to proceed in this regard.

Thank you

The name "Idea Factory" sounds good.
What exactly are the products there?
What is the plan for the new offices?
Before you make a detailed plan, you need many more details about the existing company.
You don't make plans out of hat.
Am I right?

Think Much more data is required

and the data provided gives a vague idea and though it says hiring is required, it doesnt give a clear idea about how many to be hired etc......

I agree with Sampath..The labour laws are totally different from India and also you would require help from local agencies over there who can help you with the initial setup of business over there..

Hi Priya,

May be I am late to reply,
But, Great to see someone trying to enlarge the business…..
As per my knowledge enlarge of business not directly investing in places like Canada/London..
Giving the franchise with some good companies making there employees to work for our brand name “IDEA Factory” till we get some good name in the market or atleast be stable in market for 1+year and then after looking at the results its best to start the own company until that time we can understand much about the market.. There state laws.. Establishing business in London is different and in Canada is different…
So I hope this will work better than any..
first try to make an establishment of brand name in the market once the +ve results comes in establish our own company with our employees.
May be how good everyone thinks about this but have a taught.
