As everyone of us knows that HR person is not given the due credit in any organization. They are treated as the least important function or department, where as the fact is they are the face of the organization and plays an important role in the growth of the organization by choosing the right talent.

They are paid less and even growth rate is less.

In such situations, what is the motivating factor for you to continue working in this field?

Hi,

A very nice post for everyone to think about...

If anybody says hr is a least important function or department ..then he is wrong from roots..!

Firstly, Let us not rate ourselves by what others think..rather think about us..Never bother what others, department or management thinks about hr..

Think We are great..We are the people who produce valuable assets of the organisation..We in hr are the back bone of the organisation...For example Japan a country ruined by atom bomb and far less in size compared to India is now a super power..How ? people of Japan think and act as if they are the best..But we in India however talented we are, think low about ourselves and our mother India...This mindset should change...Start thinking we are great..We will be great...!

If we in hr department think in strategic terms then we will automatically become indispensable for the organisation.

Motivating factor for us to continue working in the field is nothing but change in our mindset..There is no extrinsic motivation for this..Its all with in yourself and ourselves..Think high about yourself..You are great...!

When u start thinking great about yourself..Company,management and other departments will say "hr is invaluable for us.." !

Cheers

Sudarshan

Sudarshan,

Nice thinking and good spirit.

But end of the day everyone works for Job satisfaction and career growth.

Management always values HR persons work in time of hiring needs, as HR are responsible for hiring the best talents for the organization. But when it comes for due recognition they say its not a big deal in finding candidates for an open role.

Simple example is no company is willing to pay good salary to HR persons, where as they pay even 100% hike to other employees, as they feel the HR is not worthy and they don't want to waste their budget in paying more.
During the recession period, HR was the first department in every organization to face layoff.

We can always think that we are the best and we will do our work with full dedication, but at the end when the work is not recognized, it always demotivates and decreases our interest level and creates frustration

Sasmita, i do agree with you to a great extent. But there is one factor that you need to look at in our line of career is the expanse of industries available for us to explore. HR is the only function that has more or less similar work requirements irrespective of the industry that we work in.

Take heart and keep smiling

Sudarshan,

Nice thinking and good spirit.

But end of the day everyone ... See Sasmita's complete reply

Sasmita,

I agree 100% with u...But job satisfaction and career growth is entirely in our hands...I humbly feel that if we think we have done our job with honesty and sincerity and met our career goals and thats it..That is job satisfaction and career growth..External perception should not in anyway bother us..!

If company pays 100% hike to other employees be proud about it..Ultimately if they stay in job you are the one who is going to get the credit for that..! Yes I agree financially hr is not treated equal but our role in the company is to prevent attrition that is getting fulfilled..right?

Now during recession I agree HR was the first department to get axed..But is it not a challenge to manage a crisis situation like one of recession..? Thats a real hr role..Again be proud about it..!

If u think you are the best..Nothing can demotivate you,Sasmita..Can you afford to get carried away by petty monetary benefits again long term satisfaction that you have created best of the talents and retained them in your company...?

Please let me know if I am wrong in my perception...!

Thanks

Sudarshan

you are right i agree with you that HR are treated very low in the organisation, but what i want to convey is that just keep showing your talent and they will start following you and treating as equal as others
