Dear all,

Knowingly or unknowingly at the interview, we ask from candidates the following question.

“Why do you leave the company”

This is a very simple question. Is it really a simple question?

I have these questions in my mind.

1. Why do we ask this question? What is the purpose

behind this question?

2. What is the expected answer from this question?

3. Is there a standard answer?

4. What are the unacceptable answers?

5. Is it essential or really important to ask this question

HR professionals, what do you think?

Invite you to an open discussion.

Nimali

Hi Nimali!!!!!!!!

See that question we must ask to the candidate.Because, we can understand the candidate nature, capacity, willingness, character. It depends from his answer.
It may differ from candidate to candidate. Because, most freshers even experience candidates also easily doesn't open their mouth to talk with us.But, we have to find the candidates sticking nature with us. Always it can not work.It is a way to find.

Dear all,

Thank you all for your valuable contribution.

What do you think if we ask "Is there any special reason for you to leave your current company like discipline or disagreement with the immediate boss?" instead of asking the ordinary "Why do you leave your company?"

What do you think friends?

I've often been in interviews where that question was asked, I was never convinced the answer was fully honest.

As to your questions

1. Because the interviewer lacks a plan in their interview strategy and technique.

2. Some form of "Your company is so much better.

3. No, see answer 2

4."Mind your own business!"

5. I believe this question is useless (see above). Better questions are along the line of "What would make you stay with this company for life?"

Hi Nimali,

My motive behind asking question of similar nature is to understand his mindset about his career and change s/he is planning to make.

This is important to ask reason being , response from the other end will give you fair idea of his/her willingness for change because at times you face such candidates who takes call just like that and they themselves not sure why they are looking for change and are not clear about their move from the current organisation.

The most common and expected answer is " Growth Prospects and Career Growth" but they dnt knw HOW?

Thanks
Sonali
