Dear HRians,

I believe that most of us face difficulty in maintaining healthy relationship with our co-workers/seniors.

My question is -

"How to avoid/stop unwanted & unwelcomed closeness/friendship with your higher authorities without being rude & loosing ur job!?"

I welcome everyone to put down their best HR practices to avoid such situations and make your work place to live-in.

Regards

Sabitha

Hi Sabitha,

well it a very tight lipped topic to present views on this topic. As being a male employee i would like to suggest few tips on this.

1) Draw a line intially between work and personal life.
2) ensure what to be discussed and not with the bosses.
3) Try to minimize passing on Unnecessary details to the bosses.

as i feel these are the beginners to make things to people around you know what are you feelings like.

Hope i have thrown little light on this topic.

Open for discussion on this topic.

Regards
Praveen

Good Opening Praveen. The closeness between Higher authorities and other employees grows for the following reasons:

1. Mutual interest.
2. Fear of Losing Job.
3. For Higher increments.
4. Back Bitching.
5. Undue Influence.

To avoid such closeness, the above factors should be kept in mind. If the superior is showing too much interest into the personals smoothly and strongly cut it.

Leave the fear of losing the job. A talented person can always get a job wherever he/she wants. When the fear of losing job pervades, we keep accepting unwanted indulgence into our personals.

For higher pay hikes also sometimes few employees encourage such indulgence. Our compensation should grow with our individual growth and their contribution towards the Organisational growth not by the growth of our closeness towards higher authorities.

As you sow, so you reap. Stop carrying tell tales and unwanted details about your colleagues. That way we can avoid people doing the same about your personals.

And sometimes the higher authorities use their power and authority to influence their subordinates and take advantage of them. We should be vigilant enough to face such influences and be brave to say no to any compulsions.

Regards,
Manjari.

Its True Manjari.

I feel its very important to say no to any kind of compulsions if they feel that the higher authorities are taking undue advantage.

Praveen.

Nice topic ,
My answer would be difference between asst hr and hr.

I will breif it, Human resources will be used by hr head, precisely we say it is personnel in common.First of all one should know his/her resposibilities and hierarchy as well.

Coming to hierarchy is your answer,if there are no problems that not a organisational at all (Its hr responsibity to tell organisational behaviour in induction).Suppose some one is facing some problem against any one in the company you should be more friendly with him/her,In such way that.

Eg: Normally girls/ladies suffer this sort of problems because they are reserved , they use artificial smile, from day one.Suddenly any problem arises he /she needs to speak with the problem maker, with out willing.

If iam in that position i will think and speak what iam talking in office premise
If anyone asks ur number donot panic, give staight away, with smile.
If anyone asks ur Email id give it,
If someone is seeing at u, let him see ,once it over u see him in the same way so that the other also feel the same.
If some one is speaking in a different manner donot think its lust.
First speak with the person who ever he/she may be.
Do not avoid any one, if u want to avoid any one particularly tell him bcoz of so and so reason im avoiding.
Forgot first impression is the best impression (it ok with interviews)

Think that ur the best ,beautiful , attractive & aggressive, pretty, handsome Otherwise what ever u do, You wont get job satisfaction and sound sleep.

Think about urselves first leave rest to god.

This is one of the topic which stimulates your brain to think what ways you can keep a professional rather than personal relationship with your Boss or Colleague.

-Well, as Ajay noted it hardly matters if you share your phone numbers or email address with these people. As its always in your hands to avoid them as out of office you are free from the superior - subordinate relationship.

-Be utter professional. Talk sense - this mean do not indulge yourself in to any discussions which has nothing to do with your project or work in question. Show yourself you are busy and have no time to take their nonsense.

-Once you done with you office shift, sign out of office premises and then home, do not give them any hint of your after job past times. Keep your professional and personal life definite. This means your personal and professional life should be different from each other.

And if you follow these principals no one, believe me no one can intervene your life without your permission.

Harsh

Hi Sabitha,

Answer to your topic simply would be Keep doing your work for which you are meant for there at your place in your Office. Because in the end of the day your work will count where you are and where you should be.

But yes because we do not work alone we need to have interaction with people around us which is again necessary. And sometimes comfort ability between Colleagues makes us to discuss things and topics apart from work. But then if that bothers or makes one uncomfortable by any means than we should halt there and try to make things smoother without being rude. And you also know. you are being paid for your work so no need to have the fear of loosing the job. When you have capability you dont have to worry if you need to look for other option.

Neelam

I have a friend of mine who served a company for more than 5 yrs as a senior looking after the entire operations of the company.

Suddenly her boss started harrassing her and started using abusive language before the staff.

Looking at the situations she decided to quit the job but then her boss said that he would terminate her without no reason and will not give her experience and relieving letters.

Now my question is

1) "How can she justify in the next interview about her past company?will this create a negative impact on her career?
2) What action can she take on employer when he is financially strong to save himself?

In such a case, one needs to be understood the HR is given proper training on the sexual harassment and grudges with in the department.

If your friend decides to resign from the particular company she needs to make a note in her resignation for the reason she is forced to resign and get a copy of the same.

-There are many organizations which help when an employee is been under her job threat due to such dumb-ass activity by the boss or her immediate manager or the owner.

-There will not be a negative impact as she has to bravely explain the details for her leaving her past company to the employer where she might be interviewing and has to carry some recommendation letters from prior employers.

-There is no where written that an employee has to take abusive notations from his boss. she can sue the employer if she wants to on the same basis.

As per the case the person who has worked 5 yrs in one company as an incharge of operations. If her boss is harassing her in front of all that is wrong if they got any disputes they should solve in close circuit.

They both keep it in mind whatever they speak in public may cause to lot of replications about the company.

1ans) If her boss is harassing by not giving her relieving letters and etc,If she is going to another company more than her c.v,what she speaks and how she convince the other person is damn important. No two person thinks alike ( that goes with hr also).
