Hi Preeti, like to share the knowledge gained from my experience.
Head hunting is nothing but approaching a (exactly matching to our requirements) right candidate in my view.
Well, it is possible only through generating and build your contacts (social networks & also through job portals).
In short - Mapping the industry and the finding the competitor helps you to approach a candidate (from a particular company) with the network generated in that particular industry.
Hope will help you !

Hi All,
This is Preeti here, i am working as a Junior Staffing Head in a software development company.Currently i am handling Recruitment and some positions are very critical and finding difficult to close.
Can anyone suggest alternate method to close the position apart from depending on Portals and Networks.
As i am to new to Recruitment and not much aware of Headhunting procedure.
Kindly provide me the Headhunting procedure in detail.
Apart from these do you follow any strategies to close the Niche requirement.
Regards,
Preeti.
Preeti,
There are various Recruitment and Selection Modes, they are as follows.
1) Walk-ins through Paper Notices and Banners
2) Employee referrals
3) Advertising
4) Websites
5) Professional associations
6) Educational associations
7) Professional agencies
8) E-recruitment (general recruitment agents/ companies’ own sites)
9) Word-of-mouth
10) Post your Requirement in HR Link too with your address of your company and the person to be contacted.
If all the 9 modes does not work the 10th will surely will work out.
Thanks & Regards,
Subramanian G

Hi Preeti
As per my view Headhunting is the process of finding the best suitable person with the required skill set and convincing him/her to join your organization. Normally Headhunting will be done for the crucial/senior positions, where the matching profiles will not be available in the job portals.
For Headhunting the recruiter should have good knowledge about the market and industry. The recruiter should first find out the exact competitors for their company in the market and then needs to find out which person is handling the exact matching position in that company. Then the recruiter should try to get the contact details for that person either through the front office or through the junior people working under him (using the job portal). Then the recruiter should speak to the person and convince him to come for the interview and if selected join your organization.
Seniors correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Preeti
For general recruitment I can only one more to Subramanian's list - Network.
As to Head-hunting, this can be an expensive and time consuming process involving specialists. It is normally done in-step with strategic planning and for more senior or highly specialist posts and must always have a clear business case and ROI established before it is undertaken. Talk to your seniors about this before embarking upon it.
A costly failure could be damaging to your career.

Hi Preeti,
This is shipra Sr.Consultant for Power & Energy , Auto , Infrastr, Manufacturing and construction. You seem to be worried about HEAD HUNTING..... yes i have seen this Ghost many times. Every interviewer will ask the recruiter what you know about head hunting.
My views (against the market flow), will explain in the end.
Head hunting is just fitment nothing else
Head hunting is not for senior profiles only, it can be for junior level of hiring
Head hunting is nothing but straight forward asking about the skilled person you require directly by HR manager .
Let me explain --
whenever you need some specific skilled professional you have to do a search which is known as head hunting while there is no specific skill is required.
you have to make chains through references (it is thought to be lengthy and expensive hunting) if you tackle all of them honestly, it will increase your personal database which will be useful now or then, it can take time but can save time in future too.
Never cook stories to get your target professional, be clear and straight with the references it will help you better to get other skills generally required.
It will help you understand the roles in a better way which is very necessary for a recruiter.
How to close crucial positions
1.Mass mailing / calling
2. Post on networking sites (Linked in, Silicon , Brijj, HR Link and many more)
3.Try to find yahoo/ other groups based on that skill
4.Ask for reference to all your connections
5.Know your target company take out any number, directly ask for reference for that skill (don't cook stories)
best wishes
