God sent an angel from heaven in the form of a human being. He had the power to do miracles at will. While he was wandering on the earth, he met a leper with sores all over his body. Overcome with pity, the angel cured him immediately and said to him: "Now that I have healed you, go and help others in thanksgiving for your healing. I will come back after seven years to check on you."

Overwhelmed with joy, the man ran all over the place leaping and dancing. The angel again reminded him, "Be good to others always." But he had no time to listen to the angel. He left in a hurry to break the good news to his family and friends.

The angel continued his journey. On the way he met a blind man in tattered clothes begging for alms. The angel healed him and said: "I have blessed you with the gift of sight. But your newly gained sight should make a difference in your life as well as in the life of others. I will come back after seven years to evaluate your life."

The blind man was overjoyed with the miraculous healing and he turned in circles looking at the world in astonishment with wide-open eyes. The angel tried to talk to him again, but he was gone.

Next the angel met a crippled man limping along the way. The angel healed him too. The man was so grateful he fell to the ground and prostrated before the angel. Then the angel said to him: "You have got strong legs now. This blessing you have received should become a source of blessing for others. I will come back after seven years to see what you have done with your strong legs." The man said he would always do as the angel said.

Seven years passed and the angel came back to the earth as promised. First he went to see the leper whom he had healed. But the leper did not recognize the angel, who was disguised as a leper. When the man saw the leper approaching him with begging arms, he shouted abuses at him and asked him to get lost. The angel looked at him and blinked his eyes and the man became a leper again.

Then the angel went to the doorstep of the blind man whom he had given the gift of sight. The angel was disguised as a blind man and asked the man for help. But he was not even willing to look at him. Instead he cursed him for disturbing his peace. Looking at him the angel blinked his eyes and the man became blind again.

Next, under the guise of the cripple the angel went to the man who had been lame. When the man saw him, he ran to him embraced him and said, "I am glad you are here. Today I am expecting my friend who had healed me seven years ago. I am sure he will also heal you." The angel had tears of joy in his eyes as he revealed his true identity to him. He was glad that at least one of the three never forgot to be good to others. After blessing the man the angel went back to heaven.

The leper and the blind man, after they were healed, never cared for others. They had an obligation to help others in their needs. But they refused to see the pain of their fellow men, why? Because they were basically selfish people; they were concerned only about their own well-being.

Whether we are suffering or not, we need a heart full of sympathy and kindness for others. When others are suffering we should also feel their pain. If we are able to identify ourselves with them, we will some how find a way to alleviate their suffering.

Whatever we are and wherever we are, we should extend our sympathy and a word of kindness to those who are suffering. This is the noble thing only a human being can do but unfortunately now the world is full of those 'devilish' people who enjoy at the suffering of others which is nothing short of a cardinal sin.

I often wondered why we think about God, pray to divinity only or mostly when we need something?
Why we feel better when we see others as unhappy or failing as we did and that doesn't makes us sad?
Why we think we are worth having more from life while we deliberately turn our head from seeing people in need, from giving a helping hand? Why do we feel repulsion, pity, why we avoid sick, poor people, when they need care and maybe just a small gesture to show we care?
It's said that everyone should have a dose of selfishness inside himself to succeed in life. It might be true in today's world, it might be true because you have to know yourself, your wishes and fight for them...but this doesn't mean to expect everything and not give anything, that doesn't mean to forget from where we started and take everything for granted.
We can share so many things even in moments we think we have nothing to share...we only have to want that and we'll find a way to give joy, help, care, hope...

Thank you Claudia.
We normally do not share the pain of others as easily as we share the joy or happiness. It requires a lot of maturity and understanding to feel the pain and share the pain of others. Being selfish is human but it has also got its limits-our selfishness should not cause pain to others or it should not be at the cost of the happiness of others. It's not 'I' always it has to be 'WE' atleast sometimes.
