The problem with any traditional testing system is that it tests people which mean its either or. Human beings dont operate in the binary mode but operate in the ternary mode. As a result anything that is trying to test behaviour falls short of expectations. People view psychometrics as a test rather than a profiling tool. When one sees it as a test the natural human tendency is to find a way to beat the system. Smart cookies can remember their previous answers and then align their responses with respect to that to ensure consistency. Given a situation, when individuals respond they think through their response and give an ideal answer and not an answer which would reflect what they would do. So, any test provides a list of capabilities and not the ideal behaviour. To explain further, you could be capable of buying 10 houses across the globe however you can only live in only one house at any given point of time. That decision is a result of how you would behave.
Having built that premise if we are to look at traditional tests, we see why they fail to deliver. Isnt it time we start developing and implementing more behavioural based PROFILING systems than Capability based psychometric tests?
Any comments??
