(On the eve of first anniversary of Mumbai terror attack, i would like to refresh our memories.

Im sharing a article posted on 27/11/2008 reviewing the repercussion on mumbai terror attack.

I hope this be a reminder to some of our promises we assured to keep & our gratitude towards the sacrifices of our Heroes )

The recent terrorist attack in Mumbai has raised some serious question on Indian security.

A group of 30 terrorist taking their toll on the city killing more than 120 people & injuring many many more.

It is a shock to see a metropolitan city like Mumbai, esteem places like Oberai, Taj easily being soft targets.

However we salute the spirit of Indian army & police force for their Bravery. Kudos to Mumbai peoples united spirit against terrorism. But as we say prevention is better than cure our cure might be the best but where is the prevention? Is Indian politics even bothered about it?

The question being will this horrifying incident too be forgotten as time passed by?

How long will this continue? Can few common people like us get united & make a difference?

Can anything be done to eradicate Terrorism-Are we HELPLESS???

Hi

Nothing else the police/militery must start the searching in serious manner in each and every recidential places, malls, forrests what not in every area and shoot them mecilessly as if we ignore they may shoot on you and me.

No more shanti or ahimsa up on terrorists/naxals etc. like we do for a snake.

We have sufficient police force, miletery citizens to do this operation. Is it possible?

Regards,

Having grown up and lived in Britain for most of my life under terror threats (the IRA, the INLA, the Sons of Glendower, the Scottish Nationalist Army, the Animal Liberation Army and most recently Al-Qaeda and its' spin-offs) I have the unfortunate privilege of speaking from long years of experience. An immediate reaction to clamp down and Kill the lot are normal, natural and entirely understandable. Unfortunately experience has taught us they are also wrong.

During the Empire that was often the response to "Local Difficulties" as it was called at the time and it taught us that all it does is aggravate the problem.

Instead we have found that the process to defeating them starts with under-reaction. The most important thing is to keep life as normal as possible. The Terrorists are seeking disruption, the more disruption the achieve the more powerful they seem. The more powerful they seem the easier it is to recruit more terrorists. Deny them the first of these and they seem weak and all that could follow fails to appear.

Next it is important to generate trust with the majority of the population in their Sect/group. This makes it harder to recruit and without recruits terrorist groups die.

Lastly the Security forces have to be trusted. Catching Terrorists takes time and guile. The Security forces can often seem to be doing nothing. That can be a deliberate policy to let the terrorists become over confident and make mistakes. I am sure countries in the Commonwealth like the UK are already advising and helping the Indian government do what it needs to do.

One additional thought, Terrorists often plan spectacular events like these to happen in twos or threes to make the government look weaker than it is, themselves look stronger than they are and provoke the over-reaction I first wrote about. They my even have planted sympathisers (Agent Provocateurs) in communities to exploit these events by shouting down the voice of reason and inciting over-reaction. Be prepared and don't listen to the voices which cry for instant revenge, no matter how much you want to. It'll be exactly what they want.

Its true Neil. But don't u think our countries have done everything possible to eradicate terrorism. But i guess now the people should be strong enough to face them so that they atleast have a clear cut idea that none are responding to thier foolish acts.

Hi suneel,

I completely understand your emotion. The amount of hardship we have seen in recent days, its no surprise to see such kind of reaction from most of us.

But suneel don’t you think “An eye for an eye will make whole world blind”
Being a terrorist to eradicate terrorism can’t be a solution.

What do you think??

Thanks for your reply.. Really appreciate your concern towards to country

Very True Neil ..Returning back to normal life without speculating their atrocious act may weaken them.
But Remaining silent may not Uncompensated the loss. Many innocent lives have bared testimony for their cruelty.

Thanks for your in-depth view on the issue. Their may some reason behind their horrifying attitude, if we can sort out that or help them clear their misconception. May be it can be solved to some extend..
What do u think sir?

"The more you hate, the more you become the thing you hate" - Voltaire

Of the list of Terror Organisations I put into my post at the start only one is still a threat in the UK all the others have been defeated by the techniques I have sumarised here and in time Al-Qaeda will be too.

Their is no quick fix to this and instant passionate response causes more harm than good, often leading to more innocent deaths than was neccessary. Terrorists are not people of passion, they are cold, calculating creatures, disconnected from the reality of what they do. They will, indeed always do, exploit passionate instant responses. The more they make you like that the more they win. Strength in situations like this lies in the calm coherence of a community or country to say "you are meaningless" to the terrorist and calmly get on with daily life as you know it should be. They become a side issue when they want and need to dominate your lives.

Last night around midnight I opened my computer cause I felt the need to write about these atrocities. I was coming home late from work when I heard about these terrorist acts and I couldn't just stay quit. It is outrageous, so many innocent people killed again! Then I thought that I can't change anything, that maybe as Shiny said we may be given them what they want - publicity- and I changed my mind.
I am although going to write about it now cause I can't just pretend it didn't happen. I can't just not think about all those people massacred for nothing, never having a chance to defend themselves. How cruel can this be?
Suneel, I understand your strong emotions and your will to revenge but believe me, we've had a revolution years ago in Romania and we proudly killed our president and her wife in front of the whole world on television. My generation is now ashamed of that. Acting irrationally and cruelly like they do make us look alike and killing them in this manner serves their purpose and makes them martyrs in the eyes of their disciples, often very young and easy to influence.

The British people are not silent in condemning the Atrocities of terrorists no matter where in the world they occur. We instantly and deeply sympathise all those involved fully understanding what it really means to be part of something like that. Nor are we slow in responding to immediate threats

This is a link to the last big terror event in the UK. Check out http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2007/jul/01/terrorism.world2 and read how the people around the event reacted.

It is the natural passionate desire for revenge on "ALL of Them" which I am advocating avoiding. As an Englishman I have been aware of a war against terror on UK soil all my adult life. It's part of the "wallpaper" of my life and that is how it should be. Like the risk of Fire, Flood, Earthquake, etc; something you are aware of, prepare for in a general way, but don't loose sleep over. There are too many good things and too many good people to dwell on the little that is bad just because like a flash of lightning it comes with a surprise.

I am currently reading the the attack affected the Indian Stock Markets. This is just a natural response to the unexpected, it's an opportunity for those who know to make some money and it shouldn't last. The last attack in the UK which involved two massive bombs in the main financial district didn't even stop people going to work two hours later. That is how powerless the terrorist are in the UK. That is how it must be if they are to be defeated.
