Premji Foundation plans to set up university to train teachers

Bangalore: Wipro Chief Azim Premji managed Azim Premji Foundation is planning to set up a university in Karnataka putting focus on building teaching talents and to offer training programs to education professionals in India. The effort is aiming to improve the teaching standard in India which is currently lacking efficiency and professional quality.

Dileep Ranjekar, CEO, Azim Premji Foundation said, "We need various kinds of professionals in education, teacher educators and education managers. The university will also do a lot of education related R&D. The aim is to bring about systemic changes in education delivery. The finer details of the project are still being worked out
Azim Premji Foundation, which has recently expressed interest in setting up a private university in Karnataka, has been working with state education department for providing computer literacy programs to school children.
