It`s called "self-service:" the concept of turning selected HRIS tasks over to employees via a Web-based service center. Such an approach has multiple benefits, including lower HR costs and, for employees, increased convenience and improved service.
Several years ago, before HR self-service applications became widely adopted, Cambridge, Mass.-based research firm Forrester found that HR managers spent nearly 80 percent of their time administering employee benefits and answering routine questions. By involving employees directly in their own HR management, businesses can slash rote work, cut costs, reduce errors, and allow HR management and staff to focus on more critical issues.
