HI,
A Self catering holiday can be lots of fun and a great way of making your vacation money stretch a little further. There are, however, a number of things you should keep in mind when planning, and especially packing for your Self Catering Holiday. Being well-prepared and planning ahead will make your trip much less stressful and more enjoyable, and lets you get down to relaxing and enjoying yourself!
The first thing to do is to double-check the list of amenities provided with the flat or villa you are renting. Does it come with a television, a coffee-maker, and bed linens, for instance? Will you be able to use the washer and dryer, and will you need to buy soap or will some be provided? Knowing exactly what is and is not included before you arrive will avoid disappointments and late-night dashes to the nearest shop. Make a list of all the things you will need to bring with you, and remember that if you are going abroad your small appliances (hair dryer, electric shaver, etc.) may need an adapter. Don’t forget that you might also need a different adapter to charge your cell phone and it’s also a very good idea to make sure you have “roaming” enabled on your phone before you leave on your trip. You will probably want to buy a pint of milk and some snacks when you first arrive, so it’s best not to have to spend hours hunting for a shop that’s open.
Something else you will want to be sure to do before you leave is checking the extended weather forecast for your destination and make sure you bring the right clothes and footwear. Learning a few key phrases in the native language, or bringing a small phrase book can also be useful, and a fun way to pass the time on your flight! It is also always a good idea to change some money before you leave. Even though our bank cards work almost everywhere these days, the bank machines don’t always “speak your language” and they can sometimes be difficult to figure out. It’s best to at least have taxi fare in the local currency in your pocket before you land. A little bit of planning ahead will make all the difference and allow you to enjoy your self-catering holiday to the fullest!
