CV writing: Keep it honest, relevant, simple
12 things your CV should NOT have
The sole purpose of your CV is to fetch you an interview call.
~ Colorful or glossy paper and flashy fonts
Your CV is a formal, official document. Keep it simple.
~ Donot mention Resume or CV or Curriculum Vitae at the top
~ Do not add your photo to the CV until you have been asked for it.
~ Do not use `I`, `My`, `He`, `She` in your CV. Instead use bullet points to list out your qualifications/ experience like:
~ Avoid Spelling mistakes and grammatical errors which leads you to embarassing situations.
~ Do not lie about your past jobs or qualifications or anything which might have an impact on the job. You may be able to secure a job with these lies today but tomorrow you may lose it as well.
~ Donot use Abbreviations or jargon that is difficult to understand
~ Donot mention the Reasons for leaving last job in your resume
~Mentioning Past failures or health problems immediately slash your chances of getting an interview call.
~ Leave Current or expected salary to be discussed while negotiating the salary.
~ Leave all Irrelevant details like marital status etc.
~ Donot include References until asked
8 things to make an impressive CV
This article is an attempt to help design an impressive and user-friendly CV
~ Begin with name and contact details which includes your postal address, phone number (preferably mobile number) and e-mail address (only one)
~ Write an appealing career summary around your skills, attitude, knowledge and experience.
~ Focus on your work experience, responsibilities and achievements
~ Your next asset is your educational qualification(mainly for freshers)
~ Write about your out-of-work achievements, interests and hobbies which reflect your personality and skills
~ Write short sentences with more impactful words
~ Use Formal font faces
~ Use the same tense through out the CV.
Now both the Do`s and Dont`s put together can make your CV impressive.
