A very nice question to pose!!!! and hard to answer, Efficiency just doesn't come through rolls it comes through the motivation in people and their commitment towards the industry, its been obvious that there is a glass ceiling exists between on rolls and off rolls employees but its time for a change for the many corporates.
In the times of Globalization and Outsourcing it is important that the vendor management(Third party) should be done efficiently and the employees must also be treated in equal with the mother company!
Lets hope for the best!!!! and it is "we' who should bring about this change to happen!!!!

Experience can only teach you about the domains and the Industries they fall in,You can start up with listing out the functional areas which are mentioned in the Job portals and browse through net for their related synonyms, this can help you out to familiarize with the specific industry and the domain names.
Go through L.M Praseodymium General Management Text book for more clarifications, or you can refer any authour for the subject.

Every thing lies in your perception, do you think that the great things happen only with great people, no if have the confidence in you, you can surely make some thing great from small things in life.
Change is quite common in every ones life but its the matter how we deal with makes the difference between a winner and a loser.
Think like a winner,there are alot that can be achevied from a small unit, you are placed there by the company so that you can accomplish and be the first one to bring it up as eqaul as Big corporate, so goahead and take up the life!!! its calling you!!!!!

Its a great contribution to read and to follow, If every young manager be trained on thees issues there will not be any uniformed absentism and low productivity issues cropping up in the organisations, the immediate manager is a person who hold the key responsibilityof the group, its sad that now-a -days these diplomatic principles are still followed in some great organisations, especially when an employees work is critiscised on the floor before 10 other collegues is some thing which can force the employee to leave the organisation.
After all we should think that we are jus here to manage people and not to rule them over completely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think these things can help you out:
1.)Prepare an organizational chart and establish the hierarchy between the departments.
2.)Study the work process in the company, and the jobs which are handled at various levels.
3.) Try to frame out standing orders and get the confirmation for the same from your manager and display it through the departments.
4.)Formalize the attendance and punching system Days o work , holidays, and OT hours etc.
5.)Ask for the Job analysis form each department head and prepare the manpower charts for each department, and decide upon the HRP and recruitment to be done if needed.
