HR Generalist = All rounder
Core HR = will be responsible for only core activities which are assigned like payroll/training/grievance etc..
remember recruitment will not come under core activities
recruitment is entirely different entity of HR

Employee Engagement is all about creating fun...
your budget is 500 to 1000 right...
We will devide all events on monthly basis
Assume in Jan celebrate 26th Jan
that day bring a cake & snacks, ask the all the people to cut it and make them serve the cake & snacks
when they are having snacks make any of them to speak about anything they want
crack jokes, make them to laugh, ask any of them to share their funny experiences, motivate them become a public speaker
and Take photographs of all the moments
Like wise
In February celebrate Valentines day - decorate your office create Love all over your office
If you have any pair or lovers ask them cut the cake
the same as above
and Take photographs of all the moments
Like wise in march celebrate birthdays of all employees from jan to march end
Take all of them out for a restaurant or Pizaa corner, make all the birthday boys/girls to cut the cake there..
Like wise you can conduct many events in a single year...
the photographs you have taken print them gift them on any occasion - I bet they would love it.
Employee Engagement is all about creating fun....
hope this is helpful to you

I ll share you one coincidence..
when I was reading this article..my father interrupted me and said " what do you see every time in loppy, why don't you play with your 4 months old nephew"
then I closed my lappy & started playing my nephew...
now my nephew is sleeping, then I read this article completely and replying...
seriously "these days human's are giving more value to machines than men" - a hit telugu movie dialogue...
If I look back there are many examples as such...
we humans have to use the mobiles/mails/FB status or any thing you take as tool for communication as communication channel only but not as addiction.....
